I recently watched this movie for the first time and I am an avid horror fan. This movie was absolute cheese. I have heard of this movie and how great it is and blah, blah, blah. I have never been so disappointed in a film. The acting was terrible, the storyline was lame, the murders were unrealistic, the sets were gawdy, the effects were cheesy, the blood didn't even look real. I would strongly warn anyone who has heard that this movie is good and is thinking of watching it PLEASE reconsider, you will be sorely annoyed at the lack of any horror at all!! Even for an old movie, the lifestyle of the 70s is there but doesnt make the cut of being a horor movie. Thats probably why this show was just about forgotten. The settings were good like the rooms decorated in some form of italian art which was very tasteful. This is why I give it 2 stars. The storyline is not that great and is hard to follow. Trippy lights, weird sounds and fancy rooms just dont make a memorable horror film. Lots of elements are missing in this movie. It just doesnt compare to the movies of its time like Amityville, Jaws, or The Hills have Eyes... Was this review helpful? It is one of the most beautiful and frightening horror films ever made.From the brilliant first twenty minutes until the finale it is a great rollercoaster ride of pure terror.

Argento is excellent with the camera always making us feel uneasy and on edge with every scene.The use of red and blue lighting(signature for Argento)set the perfect mood along with by far the scariest musical score i've ever heard to date.The loose plot is easily overlooked because of the constant clausterphobic and visual ride that never lets you off.Try this one by yourself,lights off,with the volume up loud....Impossible! The lights will come on or the volume will be turn way down. Sure to stick with you when you lay down to sleep,too.. Was this review helpful? It's the kind of movie that graps you and you want to see it again and again. While I am no movie critic, I feel this is one of the all-time great movies in its genre because of its weirdness and it certainly does hold you in suspense, especially as the movie progresses and it becomes creepier and creepier and you begin to realize what's really going on. I rented this movie and Texas Chainsaw Massacre this weekend, my decision solely based on this list that was shown on MSN, and I was terribly disappointed. Both movies were scareless, if not laughable. And the score for this movie was so awful I wanted to tear my ears off! There was nothing of any artistic or horror value involved with either of these movies.If you really want to know how bad this film is...I fell asleep 20 minutes before the ending and I took it back to the video store without watching it. First off MSN's list #$@#s. They don't know sh#* about horror movies. The person who wrote this needs to be fired or reassigned. Obviously they haven't seen any real scary movies. They probably looked up horror movies on the net, closed there eyes, scrolled down, stop on a random movie and put it in. The only horror movies they probably saw were ";The Female &*$# from Hell"; and ";Attack of the Killer Dick";. I mean look at the freakin cover. It just screams porn. How is this movie suppose to be scary? The fact that she shaves or sleeps with girls? I'm pretty sure the HO canot act either. I'm not going to say anything else. The use of color is by far my favorite aspect of this movie. I didn't even notice it much the first time I watched it, as I was just watching the movie more for the story line. However, the last couple of times I've seen it, the things I've noticed were amazing. The innovative camera angles and shots, the wonderful use of color, and the creepy score. I understand this movie is not a ";mainstream"; horror movie, but I would much rather watch this than one of the typical lunatic-running-after-children-and-teen agers-movie. Sure, it's a little cheesy with the special effects, but it's old. And the dubbing of the voices is horrible. But when you look past all that, you realize that the directing is superb and the acting is actually pretty good. The story line is very simple and boring, but Dario Argento uses his magic and transforms it into a fabulous movie. The score is nothing like i've ever heard before, which is good. The movie itself is very original, which is also good. It is a very artsy film...it's not for mainstream audiences. So when someone says it #$@#ed, well, you'd really have to see it for yourself to make that assumption, because no two people are going to think the same thing about it. Was this review helpful? Really spooky and graphic. The plot is good at times, but acting from veteran actress Joan Bennet runs flat. Camera work and the gothic atmosphere is hightened by the musical score (Goblins).
