Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 6/18/2004A review of Superman: The Movie by Anonymous Director Richard Donner had the perfect word for his team when making this movie: verisimilitude. It is a word that means "realism". Donner knew that in order to make the film work, the audience would have to believe that what they were watching was real. And that is exactly what he and his talented team delivered. The picture had the tag line of "You will believe a man can fly" and even though the effects are a little dated by today's standards, the tag line still holds up today throughout the movie. Christopher Reeve was born to play Superman and Clark Kent, and gives the DEFINITIVE comic book hero performance. Today we are being fed endless doses of computer-generated effects in such films as DAREDEVIL and SPIDERMAN, which certainly have their own appeal, but for me SUPERMAN will always be the one film that set the standard for how to bring a comic book story to life on the big screen. I did believe that a man can fly....and I still do.
Was this review helpful? I want the DVD Set of Superman The Movie,Superman 2[My VHS doesn't work],Superman 3,Supergirl and Superman 4:The Quest For Peace. My favorite scene is when Superman and Lois are flying through the air at night.I also like it when Superman drills through the Earth to get to Luthor's hideout.I also love it when Clark Saved Lois from being robbed. Clark:It is risking your life for $10, 2 credit cards,a hairbrush, and Lipstick ?
Lois:How Did You Know That?
ClarK What?
Lois:You Just described everything that is in my purse.
Clark: Umm Lucky Guess. I'm so glad I did! I would've missed out on so much!
It tells the story of Kal-El (Christopher Reeve), the last survivor of the planet Krypton. He grows up on Earth under the name Clark Kent, a teen who's learning how to keep his powers a secret. After his earth father (Glenn Ford) dies, he finds a mysterious crystal, travels north, and finds out his origin from a message by his true father, Jor-El (Marlon Brando).
As an adult, Clark works as a mild-mannered news reporter in the city of Metropolis, trying to win the heart of fellow journalist Lois Lane (Margot Kidder). Whenever there's trouble, though, he becomes Superman, fighter for justice and Lois's lover. But now he must face a true challenge...stopping criminal mastermind Lex Luthor (Gene Hackman).
I know this was a '70's movie, but the f/x are, like, on early "Star Wars" levels! Plus, the acting's great! If your kids have never seen a superhero movie, this is their introductory course! Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 3/30/2003A review of Superman: The Movie by Anonymous I just saw the 1st and 2nd movie of Superman, the 1st was great. The beggining of the movie on the planet Krypton was excellent. The scene where Superman is going through all of Lex Luthors traps to get to his hideout is done very well. He truly is the man of steel! If you're interested in Superman and other superheros I should think you're watching the movie right now. Was this review helpful? Sign In 3 out of 3 users found this helpful Posted: 2/27/2003A review of Superman: The Movie by DJRickRadio1 That was the promotional selling point on all the original movie posters for what would become quite possibly the greatest Comic Book Adaptation ever brought to the Silver Screen. Now it is important to clarify, that When Superman The Movie came out in theaters originally...I was barely 3 years old. But in this day and age where you can watch the ";Classics"; on First VHS and now DVD, to miss a movie like this would be nothing short of Criminal. I have seen this movie many times, and find myself reverting to child like emotions everytime...I find myself cheering for Superman, and Booing Lex Luthor (sorry Mr. Hackman). If ever you want a great movie...to own or just rent for a quiet Saturday, Superman the Movie is it. Its great for Kids of all ages...I give it 5 stars...but would give it more if possible... Although part 2 was a better overall movie, part 1 explained Supes' origin and interest in Lois. This movie also has oneof the most recognized soundtracks next to StarWars which is also done by John Williams! in terms of the DVDs, part 1 is the only one that had extra bonus material, 2,3, (not sure about 4 cause i avoided buyin that one) only have trailers... I also have to give credit to Superman for being the first real ";serious non campy"; comic book adaption (unlike AdamWest Batman...). ps: a well-made but often overlooked comic movie is ";THE PHANTOM"; starring BillyZane and Treat Williams from 1996.
