I did fall asleep during this movie. After I have just watched the DVD, I checked my phone, and I had at least fifteen missed calls. I thought the only justice to this movie lied within Maggie Gyllenhaal, Dustin Hoffman and Queen Latifah. Everything was complete torture. Not physical torture though. I guarantee that I will ask Movie Gallery to refund my money or give me a free rental, simply because this movie is completely stupid. I mean, yeah. I like dark comedy, because I can understand it, but this dark comedy was nowhere close for me to understand it. I mean, I really did want to see the death of Will Ferrell in a movie, but yeah. IT NEVER HAPPENED!!! Hence the reason I fell asleep during this movie. At least I can happily say that this movie made me dumber, instead of anything else. And it really is a good thing that I watched Casino Royale before this, otherwise my sanity would have been tested. Peace. Was this review helpful? Im a big Will Ferrel fan, but i thought this was his worst movie. The trailers gave the whole movie away, it was vaguely amusing in parts, but i am disapointed that i cant get my 5 back from blockbuster for renting this one. Was this review helpful? It has a happy ending...and if you are like me, life has too many bad endings, its nice to watch a movie with a happy one.
The characters were memorable and the music was fantastic.

Not has great has some of the previews said it was. Very misleading from the previews. I thought this was supposed to be a comendy. The only thing funny was trying to take Will Ferrell seriously as a depressed IRS auditor. i wouldnt buy or rent it, i would wait for it to come on cable or tv.

Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful amazing movie!Posted: 2/28/2007A review of Stranger Than Fiction by just_joon i am a big will ferrell fan and i was a bit aprehensive about seeing him in a serious role, but i have to say i was extremely impressed! excellent movie, excellent cast, the humor was perfect, the plot was riveting....one of the best ive seen lately. personally i think will should have been nominated for an oscar simply because his transition to drama was nothing less than outstanding in my opinion. dont get me wrong, no one is funnier than will in a comedy, but its nice to know he has more depth than one would originally have guessed. highly recommend this film! Will played his part with great sincerity and I feel he showed he definitely can handle dramatic roles as well as comedies. I hope there are more of both coming his way. As for Emma, I dont know if she was supposed to be unlikable but I felt she was. The assistant sent to help her (Queen Latifah a good actress) was far more compelling to me. In the end I feel that essentially Will carried most of the movie. Curoisity as to whether he lives or not was the factor that kept me watching . Was this review helpful? Believe me, I could go on and on and on about how wonderful this movie is. My husband and I both loved it. The screenplay is brilliant, the characters are intelligent, the humor is very dry and the directional pace is absolutely on par with the plot development. All these things are becoming a rarity in Hollywood, which makes it ever more rewarding to actually find a film like this. Was this review helpful? I suppose there is no accounting for taste sometimes o) I recently saw this movie and thought it was outstanding! Will Ferrell gave one of the best performances of his career and showed his versatility by playing the lead in a drama. I was moved and provoked to thought at various intervals during the film and although, as other people have pointed out, the theme-moral was not something flashy and new, this interpretation was wonderful. I too, was expecting a comedy when I arrived but was able to be open enough to appreciate the movie for what it really was. I highly recommend you see this film and really hope to see Will get the recognition he deserves for this role. Was this review helpful? WARNING DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE IF YOURE EXPECTING A COMEDY. Most of this movie is NOT intended to be funny. While the movie was great, the movie experience was not because people in the theater would laugh every time Will Ferrell showed up on screen, regardless of whether or not the moment was supposed to be funny. That aside, Will Ferrell breaks his the seemingly tight ball-and-chain that held him to starring in frat-boy comedies, takes this character and runs with it. He is amazing as Harold Crick, to the point where (if youre going to see the movie and not to laugh) youll start to believe that he IS Harold Crick. Emma Thompson is amazing as always, Maggie Gyllenhaal is gorgeous and delivers her character with just the right amount of sympathy and wit, and Dustin Hoffman is perfect as the lterature-obsessed professor. My boyfriend and I went to see this, and we were both pleasantly surprised by the end. I would reccomend this movie to anyone whos looking for something with wonderful acting, an intense story-line and a comedian becoming an actor in his own right. Was this review helpful? But it was suprisingly, one of the best movies I have ever seen. It mixed comedy and tragedy (which is also a main theme of the movie) and it included dry humor which I really loved. It kept me laughing, but in the end, it actually made me think, and taught me a few things along the way. I think that Will Farrels character was so perfect for him, he did a fabulous job.
