I watched The Mist on DVD last night and I was impressed. The ending was skewed from the novella, but all in all, an enjoyable two hours. Was this review helpful? Surprisingly it did! It's not the best horror movie I've seen but it's pretty good. I could predict what happened at the end even though it's supposed to be a shock to viewers. Over all though, The Mist is a pretty good movie. Was this review helpful? It was nice to see a horror flick which honestly earned its R rating, although it could have used some tits. It is true the ending is a bit shocking. Was this review helpful? It was actually cool, and it had a cool concept! Ending was the BEST. you should see it if you like bugs and creatures and gore.. All in all is was very well done! Was this review helpful? First, it was based on a novella Mr. King wrote-one of my favorites, I might add. Second, it was adapted to the screen and directed by Frank Durabont, who also directed Shawshank Redemption and Green Mile-two more of Mr. King's stories. All 3 films mentioned here deal with human condition, it just so happens that in The Mist there are "monsters" outside as well as inside the store where these people are trapped. I saw it first with my (adult) son, and was shocked at the ending-not like it was in the book! I saw it again with my (adult) daughter and liked it better, altho I didn't like how the military was blamed-seemed too "tidy" for my tastes. It seems like Hollywood has a hard time transferring Mr. King's stories to the big screen-most are just too cheesy. Read the short story, and then watch The Mist (or Green Mile or Shawshank). I won't give it away but truly, don't waste your money and more importantly your time on this low-budget piece of crap. The acting was dry and stale at best, I've seen better on a daytime soap opera, the script was horrible -- there are better 10 year olds in talent shows at elementary schools with more talent for writing than this guy possesses. The characters were portrayed to be complete idiots and I hope that in a real emergency, the rest of humanity has more common sense. I've seen a lot of films and therefore a lot of BAD films, but so far this is the absolute WORST film I've seen to date. I can't say anything nice about it, with the exception of the shocking if somewhat stupid ending. I didn't really see THAT coming but in a sick and twisted way, I was glad. Idiots! They deserved what they got. None of it was in any way believable, even for a horror film. Also, I knew from the beginning what "The Mist" was when the National Guard vehicles were racing down the highway and the two male characters were discussing the secret military testing. Come on, don't insult my intelligence!! Enough already, I wasted time watching this DVD and now that I've shared my opinion it's time to close this regrettable chapter and cut my losses. I am just thankful that I didn't have to spend my money to see this film. Don't recommond this one to anybody on your Christmas card list. Hey, maybe the government could use it as a new torture device! LOL. My eloquent and final words: This movie totally ($@&ED! Was this review helpful? It kept me wanting to know what they would decide what to do, and how the people would end up treating each other. It kept us talking after the movie. Was this review helpful? Dumb. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 1 users found this helpful Posted: 12/13/2007A review of Stephen King's The Mist by krisrocks8022 I loved this movie! But, I am not surprised that people didn't like it....not because it wasn't a good movie, but because they didn't get all of it. All they saw were staple characters and campy monsters. But underneith that was one of the most humanistic themes that are very rarely seen in movies. It's one of those movies that you talk about all the way out of the theater, into the car and the whole way home. And not just about the movie, but it branches out in so many different areas. What is man without his technology, weapons....and safety? It brings up the very much forgotten thought that we are at the very core just animals. And in times of terror, with the things that give us our "humanity"...we can deevolve back to our animalistic roots. I loved how it brought up that politics, religion and technology can bring up those basics very quickly in times of high stress. And the ending....absolutely brilliant! My friend and I literally sat there for a good 5 minutes after the ending....just in shock. "Ugghh, if only he had waited 5 minutes!!". All these other people say in their ratings that the ending was horrible....well damn, life is horrible sometimes....how many times have things happened in your life when you just want to look up at the sky and scream "If only I had waited just 5 minutes!!" aaaalllll the time. This movie brought out the best and worst in humanity and people. Oh well....some people are too shallow to get it....that's cool....knock yourself out morons lol. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 1 users found this helpful Posted: 12/11/2007A review of Stephen King's The Mist by CrazyGirl0508 This was a great movie, even thought I hate the ending…if only he would of waited a bit longer. Overall I myself am a Stephen King fan; he writes and directs good suspense, horror, and mystery movies that leave you thinking of ideas that just amaze you. I am also a person that likes to see bloody and gory scenes, so I give that an “A”, and the religious lady…boy I was glad when she died; You go dude! But this movie was a bit disappointing, I catch the idea sooner than I thought, (1) I would have never thought that it had ugly bugs. I hate bugs! and (2) the whole concept of you thinking what humans would do to survive, well when you get into that position think about, what would you do? Was this review helpful? I WALKED OUT IN THE FIRST 20 MINUTES & DIDN'T LOOK BACK. GLAD I WENT TO THE EARLY SHOW, I CUT MY LOSSES............ Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 12/9/2007A review of Stephen King's The Mist by Soapsuds1023 The Mist had a despicable ending.
The movie in parts was burping and for most part unbelievable. The objective of the story seemed to be to scare the living day lights out of the viewers. I have not read the novel so I do not know how close the screen-written script kept true to the novel. However, if the novel is anything like the movie, then I will never read it.
Stephen King did a no, no, in ending the movie the way it did. I was extremely upset and could not figure out why Stephen King's "The Mist," ended so savagely and in such a vicious manner. "The Mist" has a repulsive, abhorrent, detestable, hideous, repugnant, and obscene ending to say the least.
One thing for sure, I will never see another movie based on Stephen King's novels.
Stephen King stepped definitely stepped over the line on this one! Was this review helpful? Sign In | ||
