"State of Play" was among a few films I had been waiting for, and it was not only because of its impressive advert or that Russell Crowe was the central character. It's a good mystery film, with twists and turns to feast our eyes on, well acted and believable. Above all, it is a summer film worth watching. As a resident of a third-world nation, I'm beginning to think if federal leaders really do make a lot of money from similar projects, apart from taxations and revenues. However, I thought the ending was lame; I could always watch how newspapers are printed at NGC's "I Didn't Know That" - if I wish.

Ok, Great piece of "Who Dun It" - probably one of the best switches at the end I have seen since the 6th Sense, that being said Ben is not NOT the person for this role and it sadens me as I cant get past his acting to enjoy his part. Someone a little older, little more rough around the edges would have been better choice and I feel that the movie was great - even with him in it. I would suggest you see this movie if you are tired of knowing "who dun its" in about 5 minutes of a regular movie

Went to see this with the wife and 12 year old son and we all enjoyed it. At some parts we were all on edge. It's well scripted and well acted. We highly recommend it.

THe much anticipated "killer twistie tie ending" just fizzled. This is a lockstep and formulaicly predictable and campy story about the gee-wiz cub reporter getting a shot at working with the wizened old pro, and it just plain does not work. Be warned

this project was doomed from the beginning when they couldn't settle on a script...bad enough that three writers were brought in, but when brad pitt walked out on universal, well then...the movie was way "over the top" preachy and heavy handed in its political slant...i felt as though it talked down to its audience throughout making it hard to develop any connection to any of the characters...the dialog was simple and unimaginative...coupled with a plot that was so flawed that the ending was nothing more than a relief...

The acting was decent, Russell Crowe, Helen Mirren and Ben Affleck did a great job with the story line they were given, and managed to keep the suspense even til the end. I was surprised by Jason Bateman, who I've missed since Arrested Development was canceled, playing a slick slick pimp like character. I say go see it, even if you only go to the matinee. This movie will not waste your time!

This was a good movie, good story. It is not obvious, til the last 10 minutes, you start seeing clues that become more and more revealing, until they spell it out for you dullards. It could have had a bit more action for my ADD conditioned mind, but these actors were all top notch, and I never felt it was too slow. It took some time to develop the story, but it was worth it. I saw it for 6 bucks on Friday morning, and it is worth seeing for full price. I won't buy the DVD, or watch it again for a few years, though. It's not a great movie.
