I sat through Muriels wedding, in the theatre, but couldnt stand to see this movie to the end. No I hadnt read the book and its unfortunate to say that this movie really turned me off to reading it. The actors are all appealing, the special effects are incredible and the action sequences are utterly JAW-DROPPING. i HAVE NO IDEA HOW THIS FILM DID NOT GROSS OVER 100 MILLION! THe 1996 effects in this film are better than today's CGI and should be used as a template for the proper way to inhibit CGI in a realistic looking manner. HATS OFF to Verhoeven. When i first saw it when it first came out, I was amazed how futuristic yet real the whole thing looked. I still believe,to this day,that Starship Troopers is one of the best movies ever made. I recently saw it again and iI was still amazed just like the first time that I saw it. i would really enjoy to see a second part where Earth is once again under attack and see Ace, Johnny, Carmen and te rest of the cast save the Earth fro yet another alien species. Heinlein must be spinning in his grave, because this movie trashes his book. The book was a well thought out discussion of the rights and responsiblities of citizenship within a action packed story. This movie made patriotism akin to fascism. Post 9/11 should show how very sophmoric that idea is. I give it 1 star only because the computer program wont let let me select a negative number.
