Date  Helpful Rating 0 out of 0 users found this helpful  best star wars movie everPosted: 8/8/2006A review of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace by Anonymous This is the best star wars movie ive ever seen.Liam Neeson does a wonderful job as Qui-Gon Jinn.Ewan McGregor does a fantastic job as young Obi-Wan Kenobi.Star Wars episode one tells the first part of Anakin turning into Darth Vader,the worst villian in the galaxy.It also shows Ben Kenobi when he was younger and Obi Wans master Qui-Gon Jinn.This movie adds a lot of new and delightful star wars charactors.I really love this film!!!!!! Its portrayal of the jedi and sith in this are very amazing and this is definetly the best one, especially with the nice addition of the pod racing. Too bad darth maul had to die though. Now, for the review. This movie, all in all, is for the Star Wars fans. It is a prequel, so don't expect Luke or C-3PO in this one (they come a while later). You pretty much have to be in to Star Wars (like me) to appreciate the deep, rich story and generally great movie that is The Phantom Menace. I think the reason why people tend to hate this film is because it's a lot different than the first three; people were expecting a rehash or something. Another reason why it's so disliked by the general public is because they don't get it. "Huh, what's 'the force'?" "Wait a second, what just happened" or "Wait, where are they again?" If you are asking these questions, go watch the first three or you will get a bad first impression of such a good movie. The thing is, this is not a movie for passive moviegoers; this is for people who really pay attention and listen; not for those looking for mindless entertainment. To truly appreciate this movie, you have to watch the first three movies (Episodes 4, 5, and 6) and pay attention. Then it will start to make sense. So, for the Star-Wars fans, this movie gets a 3.7 out of 5. For the people who enjoyed the original trilogy or just those looking for a good film, this gets a 3.4 out of 5. And for the mindless-entertainment-seekers, you may as well forget this movie ever happened. Was this review helpful? Instead, we now see that the Jedi Council are extremely arrogant and corrupt. Their jealousy of Anakin Skywalker's skills as the chosen one was the beginning of the end for the Jedi. If you disagree you are lying, deluded or have seen no more than 20 films in your life. The weakest of the original trilogy, Return of the Jedi wipes the floor with this tosh. No matter how much you wanted to like this (and I wanted to) it IS crap. The characterisation is poor, the effects arguably INFERIOR to the originals and the plot is weak. I wasn't born when the first three were made so it is great to see a Star Wars movie in the Theater and have it part of my generation. Give it a chance it introduces a lot of new elements to the Star Wars family. And Ewan McGregor is totally great in the role that made him famous in the US. Also George Lucus is a genius.
