I thought before seeing this movie that there is no way it could be better than Benjamin Buttons. I was wrong. I was full line and sinking in this movie within the first fifteen minutes. It was more than just a movie. It was a journey or an adventure. It was one of those movies that you ended up rooting for the underdog. The movie was well directed, and written. The storyline was original and compelling.

My wife and I enjoyed this movie from beginning to end...and can't wait to see it again. We were not sure what to expect when we went into the theater, and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of this film. The cinematography was powerful, the direction superb and the subject matter important and revealing. For those who were "disgusted," you should realize that this movie is not fiction. Children just like these are being brutalized around the world 24/7 - from the child sex slave trade to con men in India to drug traders in Detroit. May be time to take off the blinders and do something that will make a difference in the lives of children like those portrayed in this excellent movie. It sure beats the pants of "Brokeback Mountain" and "No Country for Old Men." And best of all, it wasn't out of Hollywood.

To my surprise, I thought it was one of the better movies I've ever seen! It's a slumdog Cinderella story. I can't wait to see it again!

As someone said in the reviews posted here, this movie can have only two extreme reactions: you love it or totally hate it. The theme may be bizzarre or so improbable, but for a movie director to make it so entertaining and yet bring reality into it, is not easy and that's why the film won the Oscars. It is different and to make the slum dwellers who have never acted in the movies act so well is not easy. Poverty is very difficult for many Westeners to handle but it is real in the thrid world countries. Children are mistreated, and greedy and mean adults make a living out of the unfortunate circumstances. The movie brought it out well, although very painful to watch.I believe the Wealthy West needs to watch this movie to understand what it is like for hundreds of million out there, and India needs to get embarrassed about the conditions in Dharavi slums. Just as David Copperfield brought out the injustice of child labor, this movie brings out the atrocities in the Mumbai slums and hopefully, the Indian Govt. will wake up. The movie is well made and has served its purpose. By the way, the comment by one of reviewers about Jesus Christ is totally out of place; although I am not a religious buff, intellectually I would like to think that the Good Lord is ever loving whatever name you choose to give him or her. The movie took many people out of their comfort zone and hence the reaction I presume. It is a fictional theme after all, we tend to forget with lots of reality thrown in to make it interesting.I give it a full rating.

We thought it would get better. It doesn't. I’m telling you now because we kept expecting that surely from somewhere would come a tiny glimmer of light into the total depravity that was this film. Imagine children growing up in the worst conditions of the most horrible slums of the world. Now, do you want to watch that for 2 hours? Who cares that the filming was well done, when the scenes were of torture, even of children having their eyes put out by predatory adults, and sickening conditions devoid of any hope? My husband was ready to write it off early but I held out for some flicker of goodness to appear in the form of maybe a school or a missionary. Instead, the kindness we take for granted in America never made an appearance. Christians, if you want to know what life might be like without Christ, or if there’s still a need for mission schools, this horrible story could show you. Why would crowds of ‘slum dogs’ dance in the streets because one of their own won a million bucks? I left thinking that the filmmakers didn’t even get the point demonstrated by their own movie, and that they actually imagine that money is the salvation needed. It’s much more than money that’s missing here. And Hollywood decided this sick production is their own best effort of the year. Sad commentary on Hollywood.

Did the posters who wrote that this movie is about the slums of India actually watch the movie. This movie was about so much more. The character development throughout the whole movie was great. It was well acted and I think desrved the oscar for best picture. It's definetly worth going to see.

Nice photography, but otherwise boring. Great marketing job and super commerical for the TV show.

Slumdog is now one of my favorite movies of all time. I loved the characters, every one of them (except older Salim), the kids were so hilarious and sweet. Frankly I do not understand the harsh criticisms of this movie that are on this page. The cinematography or acting or directing was not bad at all, maybe nothing so amazing that it was revolutionary but there's absolutely nothing to warrant accusations of this movie having "the worst..." anything. I actually loved the directing...it's so different from the movies that have come out in the last few years. The dialogue is blunt, crude, funny, and natural. There is no philosophical brooding or clever catchphrases, just real life, poverty simultaneously mixed with fun and adventure from the perspectives of little children. The opening chase scene is my favorite, the camera angles were perfect with the music. I felt like jumping up and running myself, so cool. Speaking of music, my favorite aspect of Slumdog was the soundtrack. It was so energetic, kind of hip-hop mixed with exotic Indian songs. The music was really intoxicating. Another point, I don't understand why some viewers can't handle the perverse ways in which those children were treated in the orphange with the Chrisitan pedophile man? Why shouldn't these issues of child slavery be brought out into cinema? If it's too much, leave. Don't try to destroy the movie's credibility as if it actually perpetrated those acts by showing it to you. Some critics of this movie need to cool it. I can see how some people may not like the movie but I think the overkill in criticism is due to the fact that Slumdog was given so much acclaim during the oscars and people just want to counter the opinion of the crowd, for the sake of nonconforming. It's an awesome movie, you'll fall in love with Jamal and Latika. I'm still reliving parts of the movie and cheering for the orphans in those slums. But anyway remove the pre-conceived hype that's its washed in, the review...

I heard it was a must see so I went, but wasn't sure what it was going to be like. I loved it! It deserved every oscar it won and then some. I was surprised that not one of the actors were even nominated. It is a must see. It is the best movie of the year. You don't want to miss seeing this film! Bravo!!

The best movie is a really long time. And I'm saying this from a teenager's point of view, which i am. It's an amazing movie. Very touching, and has a lot of details and really tells you how the people in some places live. I give it a 5 thumbs up!

Loved this movie. Was a little skeptical before going; seems I don't normally agree with the critics. But, was pleasantly surprised! Loved the storyline, the acting, the scenery, and the suspense. Thought the movie was so much more than winning the lottery... showed resiliance in the face of adversity. Made me feel good to see the underdog prevail. This movie will stick with me for a long time. A definite DVD investment in my future.
