Well i agree with the title somewhat, shut up and sing, or dont, wont hurt me any. I never did like them with that whiny make my ears bleed singing, but thought i would give them a chance anyway. I am just really sick of celebraties at this point any way. I am sick of hearing their opinions and politicial slop, which by the way most have agents to tell them what they should be saying. Get back to the business of entertainment for Christs sake! It is not just the media doing this, the celebraties love it for publicity and the public eats it up and make the celebraties heads even bigger than they already are! Stop patting them on the back! Celebraties including the dixie chicks now days ARE nothing but a bunch of overbearing spoiled egomaniacs. Who need constant pats on the backs from the public and their peirs! My god when ever one of them has a kid youd think they were the only person on earth who ever gave birth! As far as the mouth on the dixie chicks, enoughs enough. I dont agree with all the president is doing either but I damn well show our president some respect! Oh and by the way,, when the hell is Barbara Steisand moving out of the country? im still waiting since Bush was elected she said she was leaving, well???? Maybe that chick should pack up with her and get out of this horrible awful country of ours that is making them millions of dollars! Whatya say Natalie, Ill help ya pack!

It took just a few choice words against the President of the United States by lead singer Natalie Maines in London to land the Dixie Chicks in a lot of hot water back home in a country gearing up for a war in Iraq that its planners had no clue how it was to be won. But three years later, the times have changed, the tables have turned and with that same Presidents popularity ratings in the cellar, the Chicks have since turned all the trouble they went through into a great album--and a great documentary film. While probably quite a few cynics, particularly on the far-right of the political spectrum, will demean this film as a Chicks pity party, it is nothing of the sort by any means. Nor is it merely about freedom of speech, though that element is unquestionably in there. SHUT UP AND SING, at its heart, is about the purest form of American patriotism there is--love of family love of the best of this great nation of ours, and a willingness to realize our faults. It makes no pretenses at depicting the nasty reaction of Red-State America and the callousness of the Bush administration towards the Chicks as anything less than hypocrisy at its highest both groups come off even worse in many ways here than they did in FAHRENHEIT 9-11, and this without Peck or Kopple ever being known as agent provocateurs like Michael Moore. The family and musical moments of SHUT UP AND SING are also interspersed with animated conversations between the Chicks, their manager Simon Renshaw, and their album producer Rick Rubin, as well as some incendiary and blackly comic comments made by Natalie about both Bush and Cheney. All of this makes for a ferociously patriotic and all-American film about true American pride where three women from Texas stood up for what they believed in, even when it was wildly unpopular, and came out stronger from the experience. Kudos to the Chicks, Kopple, and Peck for showing us what our country can still be if we fight for what is right!

I agree with many Americans that these spoiled girls do not deserve the publicity that they are getting. Their music means nothing to me, especially after their selfish evaluation of something that they do not know anything about. I will never spend a penny on their music, because they are nothing. I do not even remember that they have ever existed. They are just an empty space in our galaxy. P.S Is there a way to give them a big zero, no star, because there is not that option. It is too bad!!!

I went to see this to see what the Dixie Chicks wernt through after the London concert. I felt they were probably ganged up on by the media and didnt deserve the poor treatment they got. This documentary showed me the truth. It shows what a bunch of spoiled, self centered brats they really are. Their songs dont sound so good to me anymore. Its not because they are anti-Bush....I am too. Its because they are just lousy people that think they are hot stuff and everybody else is nothing compared to them. They should have remembered where they came from. This documentary is only good if you want to see how people become ego maniacs after they make it. What a waste of talent. They are history for me.

The whole thing revolves around Natalie and that is exactly where the movie takes you. The chicks have come to believe that if youre in the limelight, for whatever reason, youll sell records. This may be true but, its sales for the wrong reason. Nowadays, people buy their records because they want to hear if there is a protest message of some sort intertwined in the lyrics or just a plain old entertaining love song. I would hate to fall under Natalies bad graces for sure because it would be the death of me. The title of the movie tells it all and they should try to learn from it. Shut up and sing. I just wish the experience never ocurred because it has turned (needlessly) many fans against them. I can understand disliking them for their music but, not for their feelings. Why do all entertainers seem to think anyone really cares. Its the stupid mags and media that profit from these situations. Do you ever wonder why Paris Hilton has no political position?

When a red-blooded-macho-flag-waving, by voting American country music fan looks at a gorgeous blonde who also happens to make his kind of music-one doesnt normally expect him to pay attention to the substance of her conversation. Dixie Chicks lead singer Natalie Maines didnt think so either, at first. Far from controversial once upon a time- the Chicks were simply playing to a London crowd on the eve of the Iraq war-and Maines happened to mention that she and the audience were on the same side. Had there been no such thing as the blogosphere, the remarks might have gone unnoticed, but juiced up by the right-wing website Free Republic, Mainess comments led first to a national stir then some boycotts and now a movie in Shut Up Sing. I think that the movies not quite the Bush bashfest its publicity might lead you to believe its closer to the Metallica doc Some Kind of Monster than to Fahrenheit 9-11. I still think that The Dixie Chicks Shut Up and Sing, as are the meetings where they plot how to circumvent the core country audience and eventually how to reroute a tour and cancel shows due to poor ticket sales. Its the rare thorough documentary on a musical act whose dilemmas are faced in the here and now but one that should win over fans of the Chicks on the fence and of music docus and perhaps create a little cultural stir as well. Im not happy to make things nice.
