This wasnt a bad movie, but it wasnt good either, it got very corny, i fell asleep and so i got lost and had no idea what was going on, but that girl was crazy, it bugged me for some reason.

Yes! This is the most satisfying movie Ive seen in years, of all genres. I only recently discovered the TV series and couldnt wait to see the movie, but wondered whether or not it could live up to my expectations. Boy, did it ever. It lacked for nothing - excitement, action, tension between the characters, special effects and quality writing. There was nothing formulaic about this movie. The characters motives, actions (and interactions) and dialog were convincing. I read that Joss Whedon has moved on from the T.V. series, but I hope the success of Serenity will inspire him to continue wiith the movie franchise. Bravo. Keep em coming.

Truthfully, a delightful evolution to the Big-Screen. My and I were faithful viewers of the television series and disappointed at its cancellation. In this day of lurk-warm remakes and poorly executed Sci-Fi programming the theatrical release of FIREFLY was a breath of fresh air. My greatest concerns were that the camaraderie and humor would be lost. That did not happen and I can say I was pleasantly surprised. I highly recommended to those that didnt experience the joy of following the television program and even those that did. We eagerly await any sequel.

I saw this movie when it was in the theaters. Ive never watched Buffy, Angel, or Firefly. I enjoyed the movie so much and wanted to find out more about this River character that I bought the Firefly series. My brother and I watched every episode over the Christmas holidays and cant imagine how this series was canceled. The tongue in cheek humor, the comraderie, the western space theme, all great. Ive now watched all the commentary as well. River Tam is just one of nine characters that the series builds on (in fact her role in the movie was much greater than her role in the series ... esp the early episodes). In the later commentary on the DVD, there is talk of 2 additional movie sequels if it gets the support. It has mine. Of course, now they are down to 7 of the original characters and the companion isnt even on the ship anymore. Still, I want more.

my wife and i were devoted fans to the tv series firefly...and so disapointed when it was taken off the air to early...especially when fox has kept on such things as king of the hill and american dad.....we were so excited about the movie and were really looking forward to seeing it. the movie as a whole was great...it lived up to our expectations...everything was there ..the humor especially....but we were really shocked that they would kill off two of our favorited and main characters....very bad....i cant understand the reasoning there......but the movies was entertaining none the less.......we just wish it could be put back on the tv again.........

I am not quite sure what you people are thinking when you gush over this boring drivel. This unoriginal movie was nothing more than a bunch of ingredients tossed into a blender with no real taste to it. I saw blatant influences ranging from Star Trek to Star Wars to the Matrix and a little Blade Runner and even Dawn of the Dead and Omega Man thrown in! Theres even lame attempts to infuse this snoozefest with the notion of honor between the Captain and the Operative guy as if it were a Kurwosawa film. Contrary to other viewers (wearing perhaps rose-colored glasses when watching this effort), I felt absolutely nothing for anyone in this movie. If there really is a sin in this movie, surely this is it. Characters were not very believable and the acting was second rate. The action sequences were a joke as in they appeared hokey and dated. I found the entire movie unengaging, trite and not very compelling - except for Marena Baacarin, who is an authentic and pure vision of beauty eloquence and just radiates on the screen. If you want good science fiction, without all the empty testosterone-driven action, then begin with 2001 A Space Oddysey (of course). Also try two films by Russian director Tarkovsky - Stalker and Solaris (not the remake with George Clooney, though its not bad by itself). Truly profound visions. Another interesting (low budget) piece of work is called The Quiet Earth, Australian I believe. How about Contact? This a beautiful, stimulating and emotionally intelligent movie with very rich characters who ARE very believable in their human flaws (Jodie Foster and Matthew Mcconaughey) as well as being perfect symbolic archetypes (i.e. the universal mind-science vs. the heart-faith struggle). If youre into animation try two by the great Miyazaki - Princess Mononoke or Spirited Away, both are a masterpiece of storytelling, originality and a unique vision.

In my opinion, Serenity did for cinema what it would have done for television, if the series had not met a quick demise. And it gave me hope that original, compelling stories can still be made. Based on the Fox show Firefly, Serenity packs almost an entire seasons worth of story and adventure, wrapped neatly into a two hour package. No prior knowledge of the series is needed to follow the movie. (It reiterates stuff from the TV show as a nod to the fans) And Serenitys biggest strength are with the story and character development. Even the villian of the movie is hard to dislike. Creator Joss Whedon (of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel fame) gave me everything I was expecting of a big budget Hollywood film in spades. There is plenty of action, comedy, drama, and suspense. And, like all Whedon projects, everything is broken down to where the audience can connect with the characters and actually care when things go bad for them. I strongly urge moviegoers to see Serenity. It has all the ingredients for what makes movies worth the price of admission. The best film I have seen this year. Bar none.

We loved it, yet we know nothing of Firefly. We liked the fact that the whole story wasnt spelled out. It gave us something to ponder afterwards. The mix of characters was a plus, too.

I fell into the series belatedly through Netflix, and was devastated that it was so short-lived, there being such a perennial drought of good science fiction of TV OR in the movies. The movie was TRUE to the series, further enhancing the story line and the character development! Excellent story, excellent action, excellent pace. It is my fervent hope that there are many many sequels, or a return to the tube.

Never saw the series, saw one trailer and that was it. Major Buffy fan, so I liked Whedons work. Went in with absolutely no expectations or pre-conceived notions. Was amazingly and pleasantly surprised. I just had to see the series after that. Fox execs, I hope, are kicking themselves for cancelling a well-done and intelligent series. Whedon managed to make a movie that would not only appeal to the die hard fans of Firefly (the series), but attract and convert new viewers. Go and see this movie before its run ends, then buy or rent the dvd when it comes out. You wont regret it. You cant take the sky from (Whedon)...

Saw this movie tonight, was more then i was expecting. After seeing a few episodes of the TV show this series had me intrested in the movie.I was entertained for 2 great hours as this movie kept the pace going from start to finish.Slick special effects(but not overkill),fantastic script and a wonderful cast that has chemistry. There was a little bit of everything for everyone in this movie.Loved the range and mix of characters each with their own quirks and strengths.Would love to see more of this crew together down the road, hopefully we can see another chapter in a dark horse wonder.

First I would like to say that this is one of the best movies I have ever seen. I saw the Firefly show when it first came out and I think the movie stayed with the show very well. The plot was great, the characters were just the same as they were in the show--which is great--and the graphics were amazing for being only a 40-million dollar film. The only problem that I had with it was that it didn't have the same as it had in the show. True, it did have many good laughs, but there was something missing. Also, it didn't have the awesome song, which I thought brought out the whole theme of the film. The one thing that made this movie a must see is that you could feel what the charters felt, such as at the end, you thought they were going to die; when they felt sad, you felt sad and when they were scared you were scared. I think that’s what really made this movie great.

this movie ROCKED!!! it was amazing, especially seeing as whedon pulled this thing together off of a really low budget. the characters have depth to them, many, sides, and they're so likeable - you don't see that kind of thing in action movies these days. the strange blend of western and space is just as amusing as ever. plus, its so original. what other series has a group of bad guys (the reavers) who seem like evil incarnated, but who never chose to become this way? they either were gassed by the alliance or were reaver victims who went crazy. the plot is interesting and intense. kudos to all involved.
