That people are basically good-
That power and money…
money and power mean nothing…

That good always triumphs over evil.

Man should believe in those things because those things are the things

Well, he was right! Its a joy to watch, and everyone that I have shared it with has thoroughly liked it, also.
The actors are top notch, the direction, and script are great. It is not very often that I rave about a movie, but this is the exception!
Why this movie didnt get more attention when it played in theaters, I will never understand. If you havent seen it yet, DO IT!!!! Was this review helpful? We received over 100 copies of the film, and when it wasn't renting and nothing new had come out that I wanted to see, I decided to give it a shot.<br><br>I just have to thank whoever decided to overship us that movie. <br><br>"Secondhand Lions" is quite simply one of the best films you will ever see. While it's a simple story, about two rich, elderly brothers who have hermited themselves away from society and get saddled with caring for a 14 year old boy they want nothing to do with, it's one that will truely make you think about life, and what's important in it. It's not always what you think.<br><br>Michael Caine and Robert Duvall make one of the best on-screen pairs since the original "grumpy old men", and Haley Joel Osment, who generally annoys me as an actor, was stunning and showed that he can really pull off the right part. The scriptwriting is perfect, being not only funny, but actually funny in just the right parts, and incredibly touching when it needs to be.<br><br>Don't mistake this as being just a sappy, happy, family film, either. There's plenty of action reminiscent of films like Raiders of the Lost Ark (as seen through the eyes of a child), and good old-fashioned intrigue. While there's nothing in the film that young children couldn't see, I'd hold off until they were ten or twelve, so they would really understand it.<br><br>Go. Now. Rent this film. It's dramatic and a little comical. It's about a little kid finding a home and two old men finding their places in the world. I left the theater feeling like I lived this movie, it was wonderful. Written with great craft and acted with even greater. I came home and read some reviews, how sad that so many reviewers are like the townspeople in child's story "The Kings New Cloths". One reveiwer said Haley Joel Osment was like an adult playing a kid. How unperceptive. Mr Osments portrail of a child who had to grow up to soon in some ways could not grow up in others and was desparately seeking something and someone to believe in was brilliant. One critic said "predictable", well yes unless you are brainless most good movies have a degree of predictability except maybe for movies like "Jacob's Ladder" and they are just disturbing. It is the best $2 I have ever spent and will be the best $20 something when the DVD is out. Mr Osment, Mr DuVal, Mr Cain, I wish I could shake your hands and thank you. SEE THIS MOVIE! Yes it has son Honorey old cusses in it with Guns but it is also in the past. The movie is about a lot of thing from taking care of you money to the troubles of adolescence , to remebering how to live . the movie is action pack laughter hower the only draw back to this movie are some of the flashback seqinces . They look the actors were from the 1940's but they did help you get the whole picture. See this movie I Bet you wont even realize it is Micheal Caine. Was this review helpful?
