This was at least watchable, I can tell I was never bored because my butt wasnt hurting. The three movies mentioned sent me to the proctologist. Was this review helpful? I wish I had walked out as I kept thinking it would become funny, but alas no such thing. Dont waste your time. Was this review helpful? Sign In 6 out of 6 users found this helpful I was still getting over the visual imagery from Match Point when I went into this film. Woody Allen had the entire theatre in stiches with his wry comments. Critics will like Match Point better but there is no comparing a consise well thought out comedy with a straight drama. Most movie critics pan comedies because they dont have a sence of humor- heck you couldnt warm up to any of them if you were cremated next to them.
Scoop will live on as an enduring comedy even more so than Sleeper, Love and Death and Play it again Sam.The dialouge is think with spun cliches, dead-on ad libs and adorable overstatements. Scoop might even be considered in the ranks of the long ago forgotten English crime comedies like The Lavender Hill Mob.
Each shot was meticulously framed as in Match Point and the sets were again outstanding. Scarlet Johansen and Hugh jackman put in marvelous roles but Woody Allen stold the show. His dead pan expressions ala Buster Keaton seemed to heighten his comedic lines. This is a film maker at the top of his game and still has many years in front of him. Was this review helpful? Finally a movie we could enjoy together. I laughed so hard, my nose started honking in the quiet parts. Thanks to BBC for recognizing the Engenious work of an American Icon.
I loved the location shots. I recognized the India Restaurant, and Mitre pub from my trips to Greenwich England. My ancestors are barried beneth it.It is just down the Thames from downtown London.
Ironically, they are within walking distance to were I had to go to see Celebrity. Woodys movie from a few years ago. It needs rereleased in the US. It never got as far as Houston. Hugh Jackman was fine in Scoop, but give me Robert Cuccioli from Broadway any day.
What I did not like about this movie was not its fault. I hated having to work so hard to find it playing. Once I did find it, I was disappointed with the previews of the other movies. I doubt I will step into that Theater again. I ended up booing some of them. It did not help our jovial mood in going to see this one. Dad was ready to leave before Scoop ever got to the screen. Thanks again to Yall. And to Mr Allen who is always the same and always a riot of a writer. Imagine making Texas his next locale!?! Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Woody Allen, Hugh Jackman, Scarlett Johansson and Ian McShane star in Scoop it tells the story of a
London journalist Joe Strombel who turns up dead, he keeps pursuing the identity of the Tarot Card Killer. To do so, he communicates from beyond with Sondra Pransky, an American journalism student. Sondra chases his leads, which take her to Sid Waterman, a magician, and a British aristocrat Peter Lyman. Before long Sondra finds herself romantically tangled up with Peter while thinking he might be the murderer.
I go to the movies every weekend that is why I am able to post new reviews every week .
I always leave for the movies depending on when it starts and how big of a hit I think the movie will be. I live about 30 min away from the theater with the traffic and the lights. So with scoop I figured that the movie would not be as big a hit as The Pirates of the Carribean. Scoop started at one o clock so I figured I would have to leave a twelve twenty because I always like to give myself some extra time.
When I walked into the theater I was expecting to see only a few people but to my surprise the theater was pretty full (not to the point I could not get a good seat).
I was so glad to see there were people in the theater I though the people would not go see it because Woody Allen stars, wrote and directed this movie. I am a fan of Woody Allens movies but lots of people are not.
Yes I know what Woody Allen did but are we really going to let that get in the way of seeing one of him best movies.
One of my favorite movies that Woody Allen directed was last years Match Point I loved that movie. I cant decide which movie I liked better Match Point or Scoop, Match Point kept me wondering what will happen next and Scoop had me laughing. I really cant decide I gave both movies five stars.
Scoop is as old Fashion Woody Allen Comedy and I loved it.
Scoop will have you laughing from start to finish.
Scoop is very very entertaining. (Thats two verys) Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 3 users found this helpful This movie was awful. Woody Allen played.....Woody Allen...a real stretch!! I guess Richard Lewis was unavailable for the part. The plot and acting were uneven. The costumes were frumpy....Scarlett Johansson looked like she was wearing hand me downs from Bridget Jones. The Scoop is POOP! Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 7/30/2006A review of Scoop by MovieGeek161 Very funny must see movie. Woody Allen was funny. The movie is comedy-Crime style. It is too bad it was not well advertised, otherwise it would make way bigger success than the other comedies outside right now. Was this review helpful? Sign In 2 out of 2 users found this helpful Posted: 7/29/2006A review of Scoop by DaringPersianCat I went to see this movie last night. It is not Match Point or Annie Hall, but it is good and full of one liners that will make you laugh hyesterically. This movie reminded me of his Manhattan Murder Mystery. There is no Diane Keaton in this movie, but there is Scarlet Johansson and she is superb. This is a must see and a must have movie. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful This is the best comedy film in a long time. I enjoyed every moment. Judging from the audience reaction, others seem to have felt the same way. The juxtaposition of Woody Allens New York schlamiel and Hugh Jackmans aristocratic charmer provided a delightful counterpoint. It was fun to see several familiar faces from Masterpiece Theatre (Charles Dance from The Jewel in the Crown, Meg Wynn-Owen from Upstairs, Downstairs, et al) in bit parts. Unlike Match Point, which I also loved, this one is strictly for laughs. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Last year Woody Allen shocked the world with his fantastic dramatic thriller Match Point. It was so good in fact that it poised critics to ask the question, where had Woody Allen been? With the release of his second collaboration with the young, Hollywood darling Scarlett Johansson many were expecting Allen to fail, thinking his last effort was one last spark of genius from the legendary director. Well the working relationship with Johansson and the change of scenery from bustling New York to dreary old London seems to have sparked a Renaissance in Allens work because Scoop is not only a classic return to form for the director, but it manages to be a stellar, if not superior, follow-up to Match Point.

Sign In 2 out of 4 users found this helpful Personally I have missed Woody Allens old time gems like Annie Hall and Take the Money and Run. I havent really liked Woody Allen since the old days...that is until I saw Scoop. I was truly blown away. After seeing Scoop I remembered what I liked about Woody Allen and why. His gestures and one- liners, that not only made me laugh hysterically, brought me back to his prime. A perfect compliment to Woody Allen in this movie was Scarlett Johansson. Her performance was a perfect mix of funny, dorky and sexy. Scoop is a delightful taste of the old Woody Allen we all once loved. I highly recommend this movie to all who love to laugh and enjoy a smart, suspenseful, comedy. Was this review helpful? Sign In 3 out of 5 users found this helpful Posted: 7/24/2006A review of Scoop by Charles1030 A minor but amusing Woody Allen enhanced by his newfound love for London life. Unlike his crime drama Match Point, he returns to comedy in Scoop, a light-hearted if ghostly murder mystery that for all the contemporary English locations feels like a 1930s studio film including a plot that bears little scrutiny. Along with the delectable Johansson, the film offers fun roles for Allen, Hugh Jackman and Ian McShane. After the accomplished smoothness of Match Point, its back to more ragged form in Scoop, despite the almost identical posh settings, and the return of Scarlett Johansson as leading lady. But the first Woody Allen picture since Sweet and Lowdown that doesnt leave a bad odor in its wake. Its a mixed bag review, but its was alright. Was this review helpful?
