It's full of surprises, too--from the well drawn seniors living in the Court nursing home to the very real kids graduating from high school. My only reservation has always been how Diane is portrayed by Ione Skye. She's incredibly beautiful, but she seems a bit ditzy to be playing someone so brilliant who can get an exclusive scholarship and keep track of how many words she's learned from reading the dictionary. I've seen this film about a dozen times and it'll sometimes be annoying. The other times I just fall in with the charm of this sweet, beautifully crafted movie. Was this review helpful? This movie is one of Cusak's greatest. It is the perfect movie to watch when you've been dumped and just feel like sitting in bed with a carton full of Ben and Jerry's in order to restore your faith in men. Trust me-been there and done that. Not only is it a classic story of boy meets girl, dad hates boy, dad is a lying theif, and girl returns to boy for a happily-ever-after ending, it has an amazing soundtrack. Great cast, great story, terrific soundtrack.John Cusack is dead-on as Lloyd Dobler. Alas, in being just so darn wonderful Lloyd Dobler, and the man who brought him to life, John Cusack has ruined my lovelife.
