Date ![]() Helpful Rating 0 out of 0 users found this helpful The actors in this movie are good. Especially Miss. Cruz, and Matt MC.
They are larger than life. Thats good, because the story does not make much sense.
Even so, this movie has good action scenes and humor.
This is a good escape movie, when you have nothing else to do. Was this review helpful? Sign In 7 out of 7 users found this helpful I have been a fan of Clive Cussler's novels for some time now, although I had not read "Sahara". When I saw the trailer a few months ago, before it stated that it was based on a CC novel, I thought that it LOOKED like one! Imagine my surprise as CC had said he would never make a movie from any of his novels. I am SO glad he changed his mind!!
This film had all the action, drama, and humor that Clive Cussler puts into his writing. The only thing missing was the cameo of himself that he always puts in his novels (very funny - Dirk and Al always meet a guy named Clive Cussler in their adventures and always ask if they haven't met him before).
I thoroughly enjoyed "Sahara" and hope that Matthew, Steve, and the rest (minus Penelope Cruz, of course, as Dirk doesn't stick around with one damsel in distress very long) will all be back for further installments of Dirk Pitt adventures. The story was good (not great) but good. The acting was great and so were the special affects. I've been waiting for another Indiana Jones type series of movies I believe I have found one. Was this review helpful? Sign In 3 out of 4 users found this helpful As just an action movie, this one wasn't bad. I enjoyed the action, and some of the sub plots that were developed, and of course Matthew is just worth watching! They did a good job.
But-
I am a Cussler fan, and while I love Matthew he is NOT Dirk Pitt. It's too bad Hugh Jackman didn't do the part, he is more my idea of what Dirk should be. Al Giordino should have been Italian! Sicilian orSouthern Italian, I love Steve Zahn, but Al he is not. This is not to say that I didn't enjoy watching them in the movie, just not what I was looking for. And Penelope Cruz should not have been Eva. Yes she is beautiful, but she has a thick accent, and did not look right for the part. They should have gotten Catherine Zeta-Jones
One last thing, the write up for the movie mentions the gold mine, Arbraham Lincoln and Kitty Mannock, but other than seeing the plane, none of this was even touched on in the movie, I would have liked to see more of the back story! Was this review helpful? Sign In 3 out of 6 users found this helpful I'm a huge fan of Matthew McConaughey, but I was sort of disappointed with this flick. The movie goes nowhere, not even with the beauty of Penelope Cruz, and the humor of Steve Zahn, whom I love. And Matthew is large and in charge in this movie, looking so much like the traditional Hollywood movie star. And the film has got some pretty good action sequences and all. But it goes nowhere and you're left there thinking to yourself, hey why should I care about this? Only go see this if you are a DIE HARD Matthew fan. Otherwise don't waste you're time. On a grading scale I would give this film a C- Was this review helpful? Sign In 4 out of 4 users found this helpful This is such a fun movie; don't expect a dramatic epic, in spite of the very serious environmental issue underlying the plot.
Penelope Cruz gives a classy portrayal of a professional woman with a heart, balancing the female interest in an action movie with the dignified W.H.O. doctor on a mission to save lives. Her fellow W.H.O. doctor also developed a rich persona in his supporting role.
The other lead actors likewise showed balance among conflicting emotional pressures of the joy of the hunt, the playful comeraderie of long-time friends, and a desperate race to stop pollution from destroying Africa on its way to destroy the seas of the entire planet.
The actors portraying the African warlords developed multi-dimentional, non-stereotypical characters that were very dramatic, especially the Tuareg leader.
So this movie and the director and actors deserve much more credit than they are getting, IMHO, and I would recommend this to anyone. It has plenty of action and adventure for the guys and you won't be embarrassed to take your children, sister and mother along. Was this review helpful? She may not be the best actress, but her accent certainly hits the spot for authenticity of the charactor and she does a good job with emotion. Her main issue is simply vocal intensity. As for the rest of the cast - just bad. The move had no point. The action sequences were loud beyond all reason. There were undeveloped charactors such as a man in a turban who seemed like he could come out as a very influential piece of the plot. But of course, he didn't. This movie just hit rock bottom, overall and I would only reccomend it to the die-hard movie buffs. This is the action film equivilent of Gili. Was this review helpful? Sign In 11 out of 11 users found this helpful I went to the movie this weekend and got exactly what I paid for pure entertainment, it was one I could laugh at and yet sit at the edge of my seat anticipating the next thing to happen. Matthew is wonderful and Steve Zahn is hilarious and suprisingly brave. This movie you can take your family too and not have to worry about cuss words, nudity and major violence. I never read the book so to me it was a great storyline and the characters worked very well together. To me a great movie!!! Was this review helpful? Sign In 6 out of 11 users found this helpful Posted: 4/18/2005A review of Sahara by Travatron_04 My friends and I went to see this movie this last weekend. I had high expectations for this movie, considering how it was talked up quite a bit. I must say, I was very upset with this movie. It leads you to believe one thing, when it turns out its another thing, that actually has NOTHING to do with the original concept of the original story. This movie was dull, although it had some action scenes, but basically gave u the feeling that it really wouldnt have mattered where this movie took place. I gave it 2 stars, but truthfully it doesnt deserve that. It was simply "just another movie" If u want a movie with action, then this is a movie for you, but if u would like to have a good story too, then this is certainlly not the movie for you. Poorly done! Was this review helpful? Sign In 11 out of 12 users found this helpful Posted: 4/17/2005A review of Sahara by Nascarsher1 Don't read too many of these reviews and not go see this movie yourself. Was funnier than you might expect, with Steve Zahn stealing several of the scenes! Movies are suppose to be enjoyment - and this one certainly was! Go to this movie for the pure entertainment - not trying to compare to any other action movie. This one stands on its own. Was this review helpful? Although the characters weren't depicted as the "dark and handsome Pitt" and "the stout Italian Giordino", I think the movie was done extremely well over all. There were some things missing from the plot line, but you can't expect that you can fit a 500 page or so book into 2 hours. I think that anyone who is a true Clive Cussler fan will be able to appreciate the work that went into this production. Was this review helpful? Sign In | ||
