The 70s was more of my big sisters decade than mine, but rollerskating was still big during the 70s and 80s. And it is nice to see a postitive black film, no drugs, no guns, no prostitutes, no violence. Instead good kids, good neighborhoods, good parenting, a good take on real life! Was this review helpful? It also confirms that the music from that era was and is the best. And what a breath of fresh air to see kids acting normal and having fun. The most violence you'll see here is a water balloon soaking.

A Black movie worth seeing!Posted: 9/26/2005A review of Roll Bounce by Divinethree1 I was so impressed to see a movie that was well written and acted by a predominately black cast! I love my people, but I find myself often dissapointed when I go check out a movie that we (african americans) have produced. This movie was a nice breath of fresh air. It wasn't filled with over the top cliche's and embarrassing "hood" dialect. It didn't personify gangsters nor was the cast dominated by rappers turned actors. (we cut it down to only one rapper this time) Bottom line, this movie is very fun and entertaining. It will hold your interest the entire time and it's also a movie the whole family would enjoy. It was a great movie for kids and adults. For children, it allows them to see that dreams are possible to achieve, although our personal life (ex: parent's divorce, death of a parent) may not be as great as others assume. Kids get to see Bow Wow give a great performance and send out a positive message to kids. For the adults, it brings us back to our chidlhood. And allows us to reconnect with our children. As parents we seem to ignore the smalller things and always look for the bigger things.....our children are always trying to let us konw that the smaller things is what counts the most.......Roll Bounce is definately a wonderful movie. After my seven year old son and i left the movie theatre many of the parents were content and the children were very satisfied. Was this review helpful? I have skated since the age of 5 and still going strong. This movies should encourage people wanting to skate, a renew interest, it is never to late to learn.
The movie shows how much fun skating is, and the added bonus of hanging out with friends and meeting new people. Bow-wow and the other actors were excellent, a must see movie for everyone. Bow Wow was really good in this, along with the other actors, includes the guy who paid Moesha's little brother, character from Holes, Lead guy from " What I like about you", and Nick Cannon...he is soooooooooooo funny, it's ridicolous, and Wayne Brady.....you won't even recognize him...well worth the ticket price, feel good movie for just about all ages (slight profanity...but nothing to graphic) Was this review helpful? I was in tears at some points (from laughter). I decided halfway through the movie it was one I wanted to own. It was fun from start to finish with some interestingly funny characters like "Sweet Water" and "Naps." The skating was tight too. Skating was huge back in the day and it is the perfect back drop to the storyline of a kid just growing up at the time. I am drawn to the movie because it was set in my old neighborhood in the South Side of Chicago. The actual place is Marynook between 83rd and 87th street. I loved this movie because it took me home as a kid. The kids "baggin" on each other, the clothes, and most of all the music made this the movie to see. I only wish kids today had grown up like this...the world was a simplier place. Much props to all the actors especially Bow Wow, he played the role perfectly.
