This movie takes place in the time before Alpha and Bravo team arrive to investigate (as seen in the opening credits of the first game). I admit that there is more action than horror in the movie which doesnt follow the game series perfectly but a six hour movie about a girl that runs back and fourth in a mansion about two hundred times is just not plausible, by the way I am an avid resident evil gamer, love the story love the gameplay. This movie is not meant to be an oscar winner but if you watch it for what it is a horror-action movie it is a great follow-up to the games and gamers should love this title if you are a real RE fan than this movie is a must have for your collection. Hollywood will ruin a great game franchise! When I saw it on DVD, I was in complete shock. That movie was so freaky! I had high expectations for this movie, and it exceeded them by a long shot! The characters are great and highly original, the setting is dangerous, and the zombies are scary as h@! This is a must see for all RE fans! Was this review helpful? It truely gave the feeling of the T-Virus escaping and everyone dying off. Very realistic. After seeing both this and Resident Evil: Apocalypse, i'm actually wanting to play the games a lot more now. I first read al 6 of the books, and i hope that Hollywood will be nice enough to introduce their adaptaion of all 6 of the awesome books. I loved the first movie, the gore, the death, all of it was quite fasinating...but I think the directors and writers of these movies take a closer look at the authors wonderful work and build a bit more onto that. First of all, the characters are completely unrelated and simplistic in terms of personality. Milla barely speaks, Michelle is the hard-ass commando girl, and the rest are pretty much zombie fodder to be killed off at some point. The frightening atmosphere is nonexistant. Instead of a dreary and dark musical score, there is a hard rock/heavy metal soundtrack that does not in any way resemble Resident Evil the game. This is truly an inaccurate representation and a shameful attempt at grabbing loyal fans' money. Sure there are somewhat familiar areas, but the "Hive" will not be recognized. Anderson could have at least written a decent script. You will often wonder what the names of some of the characters are, as the dialogue doesn't even hint at what they are. Acting is decent, and special effects are quite neat, especially with the zombie dogs in one scene, although the zombies themselves don't look quite right. <br>Overall, I was expecting to be scared, but I never was. The movie is apparently a mish-mash of overused matrix-style action and nonstop shooting violence. Hopefully the second movie "Apocalypse" will be better, as it will introduce Jill Valentine, a main character of the game, into the series (yep, series). I probably would have liked this movie less if I wasn't a gamer. Was this review helpful? I my self a Resident evil fan found this film to be so pathetic that it made the intro on the very first Resident evil look good. The movie should have stuck with a familar enviroment like the Spencer Estate or the RPD building but no ofcourse that would have been to easy... Alice who is she anyways what happend to Jill valentine fighting for survial in the Mansion the movie made no reference the the Mansion Incident that could have spread some light on this bleak unworthy movie. I am Appaled to think that this has the Resident Evil Name on it. What I think would have been better would have been to set the movie in a surviors perspective not some elite commando squads. If you are an avid player of the game series... you tend to hate it. Normal movie-goers tend to like it. Since I am in between the two, I have to say for a thrilling movie, this rocked hard. The zombies in the movie are actually less scary than the ones in the game, *check out the killer sfx in the game... creepy.* but all around the movie pulls off a strong plotline, bears striking resemblacnes to the game, and has strong actors in the roles. It makes no scense having fictional characters like Alice in it. Honestly I don't need to see Alice pull matrix moves. It's been done before in the Matrix. Michelle Rodriguez did a great job. I have to say I loved this movie and I love the games. The movie is very visually appealing to the eye so at least if you have no idea what is going on you can zone out and look at the pretty flashing lights ^.^. Having no life as I do I have seen it serveral times..make that 10..so it has replay value as well. The only reason I took that one little star off is because I like many others would have liked to have seen soemthing closer to the games. Otherwise it is great and Rain rocks! ^.^ Sorry for any typos it is late here.<br><br>Oh and to rant some more to no one in particular *coughs* if you are going to off on a move made from a game..you might want to know who made the game before you make that a main issue..yeah and less ***'s thingys would be nice ^.^ night!
