The drug scene is epic in this movie and aronofskys projection to allow the audience to feel the emotions of 4 characters severly addicted not only to the drugs but to the lifestle was out standing and well put. I felt a sincere desire to want to know the inner phsykie of these characters. Was this review helpful? Meaning, every scene in the movie is fitted perfectly to the situation to match the exact parts that need to be. Basically there was no unneeded scenes, for what this movie genre is.
Some call it a horror film, some call it a drama, some say action, but I say it has all of them in it and doesnt hesitate to show the blunt reality of the situation. You seemingly bond with the movie characters, then slowly watch their demise. It saddens you, gives you a new outlook on things, and really gives it to you straight up in a way Ive never seen before. And this movie isnt for the general rated R movie watchers of this type. It is more grit than anything before. From infected arm from shooting-up, to get in the face gun shots from when the movie was completely quiet and characters where having a good time, with no warning. The shocking reality of this movie, is that it really puts things to what they are. Was this review helpful? It should be labled as horror instead of drama. The acting is the best part. I really felt for the characters and nearly cried. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 2 users found this helpful Posted: 5/30/2004A review of Requiem for a Dream by ThisLilly after reading the reviews i was thinking this would be a good movie. unfortunately i was sadly disappointed. good acting for the most part, but little in the line of "real" character development and plot. sure, we know these people have addiction problems but the director fails to fully illustrate (via a subcontext/subplot) how society traps and forces them into it. the movie really goes nowhere even with it's main plot. it does have a good orcheastral/industrial musical score but other than that the movie was really lacking. maybe it was because the director was trying to spread the story to thin, because of all the characters. other than some of the shock treatment this movie serves no utility. to make matters worse the movie has an uneventful and predictable ending. unfortunately like so many books turned into movies, the movie doesn't do Reqiuem for a Dream justice. so i advise you to just read the book. We see all sorts of horrific images, all of them combining to convince us that drugs, particularly heroin, cigarettes, and diet pills, are bad. Aronofsky chooses to go with shocking us as opposed to giving us a rational, intellectual, and dare I say it ironic or subtle, reason why drugs are bad. This veers the film away from something worthy and turns it into major propaganda. It recalls to mind immediately Triumph of The Will by famed filmmaker Leni Riefenstahl. The worst propagandists immediately go for the heart instead of the head, because it is easier to pull the wool over your eyes when you're crying or laughing. Going for the head is a more complex and difficult task. A task that Aronofsky clearly had no interest in tackling. Suggesting this be played in every school classroom reminds me of A Clockwork Orange when the lead character is also forced to sit through scenes of horrific images in order to get over his violent streak and produce a manufactured (and frighteningly illusory) "good person". Congratulations to all those involved in this film who made a perfect movie for Alexander de Large. Was this review helpful? Marion just wants money for her shop and Harry and Tyrone go sell on the street. yes, the plot is great, and the acting is great. but thats isnt the best part. THE DIRECTING WAS ABSOLUTLY ASTOUNDING.so well done. the split screens, the delusions, the use of colour and drama in just the right places. I didnt believe i could find a film better directed than "Pi" but I did. granted, its the same director...but meh.
brilliant.amazing.astounding.be autiful. dark.twisted.deep. are all words that people have used for it. some people may pass it off as boringor 'stupid' obviously dont understand it. dont listen to them, they probably liked Gigli.
~Clare,15~ Was this review helpful? A masterpiece, magnificent, incredible Before I saw this movie I didnt use to have a favorite one but now I do. Let me say though, it is not a movie for the sensitive and faint of heart. It is a very moving and touching film that is about stuff that happens IN REAL LIFE. If you love dazzling special effects or death taunting stunts (action type movie goer) this film is not for you. You have to be very open minded in order to enjoy this movie. I strongly recomend this movie to anyone who enjoyed "American History X". Even after I was finished watching it...it stayed in my mind for quite some time. Great acting! Jennifer Connelly is amazing in portraying a roll that many actresses wouldnt even think about. Jared Leto and Marlon Wayans are also excellent. Has an amazing plot, shocking ending, superb screenplay/story! Need I say more? Its one of the BEST MOVIES EVER You will not regret watching this film, I guarantee it!
Rock On!
JkG! Was this review helpful? This is the only movie i can think of that has scenes that acually make me turn away and not look. Its a great documentary that leads you through the life of 3 druggies. But its also one you have to be in the mood for, not exactly a movie you can just pop in and watch anytime. Was this review helpful? The actors were intensely acurate and the truth of this film is undeniable to us all.I Love this movie, I own it, and i watch it at least once a month. Before i close i cannot neglect to mention the score. The soundtrack is great, and like the film itself it is admitedly an aquired taste, Clint Mansell is a genious. If you like this movie check out 'Spun', Also chocked full of the horrible disturbing truth. Was this review helpful?
