I found the film very realistic and moving. Addiction is a family disease. It may not feel like a team sport but eventually everyone gets to play. I loved the way the director let each character unfold without passing judgement. I have a newfound respect for the acting ability of Ms. Hathaway. Until now I have only seen her in teen flicks that I have watched with my 12 year old daughter. I look forward to viewing this movie with her when she is a little bit older.

This is quite possibly the worst movie ever made! Watching it was like being forced to sit through some stranger's boring wedding video, completely unedited and filled with way too much junk. This movie was filmed to resemble an amateur home video, complete with shaky camera work and useless drawn out babble that add nothing to the story or insight into the characters. The story was confusing and was never really fully revealed to the audience. Which limited any real connection the audience can make with the shallow characters. The fact that this movie was nominated for an Oscar while Batman: The Dark Knight didn't even get a nomination speaks volumes about just how out of touch and irrelevant the award has become.

In the non-profit for which I work we deal with people in recovery. Their battles are often minute-by-minute and never-ending. Rachel Getting Married is an important introspective for those who are not too shallow to see it. One of the 20 best movies I've seen in 61 years of life.

I have to agree with the other reviewers that rated this 1 to 2 stars. This is not a good movie despite what "the critics" are saying. The average person will likely not even see this movie, but if they do, they will find it utterly pointless and boring. There are a number of long and boring scenes that add up to make a relatively long and boring movie. The competitive dishwasher loading scene is one of the worst on film; the car crash scene seems to have no purpose; and the endless rehearsal dinner and wedding toasts are enough to make you want to throw things at the screen or run screaming out of the theatre. The two main problems with the movie: 1) it is not a portrayal of real life - - people do not have lavish wedding festivals that carry on for three days of joy and bliss filled with food, musicians, and dancers from every culture, race, and nationality on earth - - so to depict life this way is maddening to the average viewer and impossible for most people to relate to in any way except to say "I really can't relate to this", and 2) the underlying family tragedy is so cliche and never really goes anywhere or ever gets resolved so what is the point. The only good thing about the movie is some decent acting by Ann Hathaway...most of the rest of the actors seem very amateur. Save your time and money and avoid this movie...tell everyone you know!

Artsy. A bit slow at times and although moments made you uncomfortable, it is not unlike being there and being uncomfortable. A family with tough issues cannot always be rosy.

Absolutely a miserable movie. "Artistic" camera work is erratic and adds nothing interesting to the movie, but does promote a headache. Some decent acting, but nothing of note. Very shallow and unrealistic dialogue with characters that are hard to care about. The groom, bride's father and groom's mother are VERY annoying and shallow characters. Some of the scenes are absolutely like finger nails on a chalk board. Two examples: 10 minutes of absolutely stupid comments from guests at a rehearsal dinner and the 5-6 minutes spent on a contest to load a dish washer. DO NOT WASTE MONEY ON THIS JUNK!

Very slow, not enjoyable. The only good thing was the acting. Don't waste your time seeing this movie.

Depressing. Moving camera made three of us sick and we moved to back of theatre. If any wedding needed a "planner" it was this one. Acting saved this movie.

The story line is weak & bears witness to the past re-done in an artsy format will certainly make a great movie (NOT!). Saw "28 Days" & it was shot in modern film making format...not with a follow the actors with a hand-held camera format that gives the audiance motion sickness & a headache. This movie is no "28 Days". It should have gone staight to DVD/TV. With those negative sentences written, I do find myself feeeling a bit affected by the movie (made me think more than it entertained me!)...so...two stars out of five seems to be about right.

After watching this film, three things come to mine 1) soap opera 2) politically correct 3) bohemian. Who in their right mind wants to sit through watching a movie about an east coast dysfunctional family with a 15 minute wedding sequence including belly dancers and a Hindu? wedding which makes no sense other than to make people sing "we are the world". Good acting, good direction, but in the end "who cares" about these losers?

The reason this has not gone to wide release and never will is because it's lousy. One of the worst films I have seen in years. Just plain bad in all aspects.
