I respect your opinion, I think that you dont know much about latin culture. Although in the bible the color white stands for happiness, in the latin cultures it stands for purity, it is the way our fathers have taught us and it is the way we taught our children.
In our culture we usually say that the color white is for happiness only in a joke to explain why the men wears black.
Lets say that the 15 years party for latins is when the girl stops being a girl and starts being considered as a woman. So it is a shame for our traditions to be having this celebration and be pregnant at the same time.
I know this is kind of old-fashioned thinking, but it is the way we have been raised for years. This thinking is changing, but it wont change by looking at a movie.
Im looking forward to see this movie, and see if it reflects the latin traditions or it is just a remake of several movies. Was this review helpful? So many people get offended and sometimes accuse movies of racial profiling. The fact of the matter is that many hispanic girls do get pregnant relatively young, and statistics do show that income is also affected by the age at which some girls get pregnant. You cant cover the sun with one finger. Lets not lie to ourselves here. I just saw Talladega Nights and it was full of racial slurs. It depicted the fickleness in people as well as the behavior of most NASCAR fans (beer, beer, beer). And who got offended? I rest my case.
I guess the main theme of this movie is one that has been way overdone-Overcoming Adversity- plugged into a very common ocurrence among the population in general and you end up with an average movie. Contrary to popular belief, a white wedding dress does not represent purity. It actually represents happiness. In biblical days the color to represent purity was sky or baby blue. So your comment about a women wearing white after shes had six kids by two different fathers, is not only inaccurate, its also very unfair and narrow minded.
I look forward to seeing this film. Was this review helpful? Some parents are really against having one if their daughter gets pregnant. Thats why they wear a light colored dress, it shows that they have so far kept themselves pure from sex as of that moment.
Plus, Mexican-Americans who celebrate this or have celebrated this might as well protest if the movie does not cover all aspects both spiritually and socially. Also, it is already bad enough to know shes going to be pregnant. Some may receive it as a way of saying that Mexican girls or Latin girls get pregnant really young because that is the way they all are. Once again, a political view will be brought in Mexican girls get pregnant and join in the line that asks for food stamps and medicare just because the help is free. If there are some good parts to it, then Latinos will applaud it. But she needs to have her party cancelled if the girls gonna be pregnant. Its a shame that many women still wear white even when they already have six kids of their own with two different dads and still want their white stainless dress. Same thing here. Im going to wait for the reviews. Plus, there needs to be some sort of financial crisis that she comes across, thats of course if they really wanna portray the real quinceanera. Not everyone can magically afford every single detail. I know that some girls had it all during their 15th birthday including a carriage with horses and a the marines to salute her in the church and reception. But there needs to be that humble quinceanera that sets a neurtral tone for all other quiceaneras types like the big gala ones to the poor ones where the dress is all the luxury you will see.
