This has got to be the worst movie ever made. It is the only movie in the world that I couldnt find one good thing about. It made no sense. there was horrible horrible music. Nothing in the whole movie was funny. i am a die hard sandler fan but this just outright ed a@@. i feel sorry for anyone who rents this movie. i will admit I never made it past the first 60 minutes and I tried three times. It just ed so bad I wanted to blow my brains out. This movie and the Royal tenanbaums are right up there together but this one won out for being the iest Was this review helpful? IT HAD STUPID ORGAN MUSIC GOING ON THROUGH OUT ALMOST THE ENTIRE MOVIE. THE ONLY WORD THEY EVER SAID WAS F*CK. UNLESS YOU WANT TO WATCH A STUPID MOVIE THAT MAKES NO SENSE DON'T GO SEE PUNCH DRUNK LOVE. I DON'T SEE HOW THE CRITICS GAVE IT SUCH GOOD REVIEWS. I PAID $2.50 TO WATCH THIS MOVIE...TAKE ABOUT $400 AWAY FROM THAT PRICE AND THAT'S PROBABLY WHAT ITS WORTH........I EXPECT MORE FROM ADAM SANDLER

----------A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME---------- Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 5/21/2004A review of Punch-Drunk Love by Mari14332 Weirdness rules in this quirky film. I found it to be a wonderful departure from the seemingly brainless bits Sandler has been doing lately.

At the center of this film is a man who's a complex mix of rage, humility, resentfulness and ultimately-hope and redemption. He's surrounded by a group of brow-beating sisters that would drive anyone insane. He dabbles with perversity in a bumbling manner that introduces the external conflict of the story. His love interest is a woman who is what every man needs - someone who accepts him for who he is and loves him in as weird a way as he loves.

The film assaults your senses in one scene then turns around and gently caresses your sensibilities the next. Through it all I got the sense that the movie was visually representing the inner feelings/reactions of the characters. The second time I watched it I became more keenly aware of the use of space, color and people (or lack there-of) in the scenary and backgrounds to further evoke an internal emotional response similar to what the characters must be feeling. I'm not sure if that's what was intended, but that's what it did for me.

Watch it at least twice before you decide whether you like it or not is my suggestion, I watched it the first time and found it simply odd. The second time I felt like I "got it". Was this review helpful? This movie's pros were plot/synopsis, theme, artwork, comedy, moods of melody, and Sandler's performance. The movie's cons were director's ideas, lack of comedy, and soundtrack. The movie was created for comedy but was only funny at certain moments. I give this movie a 4/10 for comedy. The cons weren't such a tension because Sandler's performance and the bonus comedy which was lacking were enough to make the movie excellent. I loved the fact that Sandler played the perfect loser who mentally and physically punched and falls in drunk love which causes him to redeem/settle the score with his foes. This movie was only great mainly because of Sandler and the little bit of comedy. Now the director tried to make a funny movie but made it in such an odd way it seemed like a tragedy. He totally forgot the glamour. He should have exaggerated the feelings and expressions of the characters some more. He should have added more music to many parts of the movie. Especially he should have maintained a better soundtrack. He really needed to eliminate the song "He Needs Me" and add the Beatles song "I Need You". The movie would still make sense with that song. The first time i saw the movie, i'll admit...it was crap. it made no sense, there was random stuff everywhere and all in all just a wierd film. Now, I knew that everything had to have some kind of meaning thanks to my english teacher...so i watched it again...and to my surprise, things became more clear and now, this is one of the greatest movies i've ever seen. Now, for those of you who havent seen it, its your choice to keep reading or not...but the whole movie is about colors. I'll tell the basic gist. Barry is in a blue suit the whole movie...why? because he's blue (sad). He meets Lena, who's always wearing red. Coincidence? I think not. He takes the piano in right after he's met lena, the piano represents her and his relationship with her. he plays it when he's sad, and missing her. Now, as his relationship with lena grows, more and more colors come into the picture. We begin to see greens, purples, and everything is very bright whenever he's with her...and just blue and basic when he's not. He needs her to complete his life and basically to see all the colors, and see life for what it truly is....thats the basic story, im not even going to get into the pudding tops...you all can figure that one out on your own...but this movie is amazing, and you will see more and more clues everytime you watch the movie...a different genre from sandler, but overall pleasing. The plot didn't make a lot of sense. Other than Sandler, the acting wasn't all that good, and the music choices were very bad. They distracted from the movie. Was this review helpful? This movie was terrible. I wouldn't even recommend watching it for free when it comes on tv. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 2 users found this helpful Posted: 11/3/2003A review of Punch-Drunk Love by definitelybookless I have no idea where to start. This movie is the most horrible thing I've ever seen. The writing, the directing, the lighting, the soundtrack, the acting, the casting, the wardrobe, I'm fairly certain that even the food on the set had to be putrid. There is no possible way this director could get an award at Cannes. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 8/5/2003A review of Punch-Drunk Love by Anonymous Don't see this film please. Bitter disappointment. I thought it would be a witty lighthearted romance but it was a snoozathon. I like deep stories and while there was some interesting background about Barry and his eccentricity, the movie was extremely unengaging. Each scene was a bust. Some parts didn't make sense like when Barry flew all the way to Utah and told the Matress King, the guy who was stalking him, to say "That's that." Lena and Barry's romance was undeveloped. The cheesy music heightened the monstosity. Please don't see this film! Was this review helpful? This along with Happy Gilmore are my now favorite Sandler films. So much better than his other characters who are moronically socially inept and shallow. This character, though twisted, was quite deep. Go Adam! Was this review helpful? He usually makes funny movies. I watched for about half an hour wondering when the comedy was supposed to start. Maybe it got funny later in the movie, I don't know I was too bored to finish it. This movie was more weird than funny, the characters are weird and in obvious need of counseling. There is a fine line between funny insanity, and just plain insanity. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 2 users found this helpful Posted: 8/22/2003A review of Punch-Drunk Love by agreuel324 I rented this movie hoping that it would be better than everyone said it was. The movie store clerk even told me not to rent it from the things he heard about it. But, seeing as though I love Adam Sandler and everything he does, I thought it would be a good movie. I was dead wrong. It was stupid, pointless, and to this day I don't know what the point of the movie was. I fell asleep in the middle of it, and that's a surprise to me because I never fall asleep during movies. Never watch it. I'm sorry to say, but Sandler actually starred in a horrible movie. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 8/16/2003A review of Punch-Drunk Love by Studente_1 I just saw this movie for the first (and last) time. Aside from poor lighting and camera effects, the acting left much to be desired. The lines were choppy, the characters totally unbelievable, and the plot was awful. If you are looking for a normal, funny Adam Sandler Movie, I suggest you pick another title. Was this review helpful? Sign In | ||
