It's like the action version of "Catch Me If You Can", as I thought to myself. What made the film good was the believable actings (well executed and not overdone like some other films, even), the 1930's settings, which gave the film an unexpected culture, and it was educative. Many of us never even knew John Dillinger until this film showed up, and the importances his actions made to modernize the U.S. police system. To me, it was like watching a good film and a historical documentary at the same time. Was this review helpful? I thought it was the best picture I have seen all year.
Johnny Depp and Marion Coitard should be nominated for an Oscar this year as they gave their best performances to date.
I had no knowledge of the Dillenger story and or his life. This movie made me want to go out and buy a book about him.
This is a must see movie before it goes out of the theatres. Don't believe what everyone else has written. Go see it and form an opinion of your own! I didn't feel there was any slow moments. I think they did a great job telling the story of John Dillenger and his love of his life. Was this review helpful? This atrocious movie had more holes in the story to make anyone with a fraction of a brain rolling their eyes in disgust and leaving them feeling frustrated as this long movie unfolds with prolonged gun fight after anotheralways making a hero out of a monster. This movie might appeal to you if you take pleasure while horrid villians are glorified and law enforcement agents and their families are portrayed as complete idiots and the "PUBLIC ENEMIES." It was very slow and boring. The director never seemed to know if he wanted to make a love story, a drama or an action movie so it did none of it well. Typically I find most of what Johnny Deep does to be extremely well acted but in this case it seems like a rehash of old characters. Maybe Johnny has exhausted the depth of his ability.

Scattered cinematography, under the top performances, boring documentary style script, and horrible sound editting. The gunshots were so loud they sounded fake; the fight scenes were spastic and cut between hollywood norm and home video ala Blair Witch (worst movie ever). It was also funny how almost every vehicle (while cool restorations) looked brand new...funny I thought this was the depression...

If you were not living in the Golden Age of gangsters and bank robbers, then this movie leaves much to be desired. The only part that I found interesting was the scene where Hoover is trying to get federal funding in order to make the BIS into the FBI. The senator was very prophetic about his views of Hoover, his experience, and his aspirations.
If you want to see this movie, I suggest that you do some research about Dillon first. This way you will recognize the places and events in the story. Was this review helpful? However, despite the very good acting performances, I found the movie boring and too long. There were some portions, particularly the shoot-out near the end, that were confusing and difficult to understand. The movie could have been much tighter. Very disappointing. The movie takes time to develop and mann does a great job telling the story of JD and its a deep thinking movie. Reminds me of the movie Heat with Dinero and Pacino. Johhny Depp is brilliant in his acting and this movie is well worth the money. The young crowd may not appreciate the story of one of america's notorious gangsters but if you've seen enough of some of these stupid previews while waiting to see what you have come to see you can judge from all the giggles in the audence what they think is a good movie

Come on, folks - a movie can't be 90 percent explosions. I loved this movie and I couldn't take my eyes off of Johnny Depp anytime he was on screen. It's nice to see him pull it back a little and play someone unlike Jack Sparrow's over-the-top (but still great) weirdness. How about Billy Crudup! He really nailed that Massachusetts aloofness in J. Don't get me wrong there is a ton of action/shootout scenes. They were good but the setups/plot was severely lacking. They don't build any characters up so you really care about them. Ultimately this means you don't care if they get shot either.
