This movie rates at the top of my favorite movie list. Travolta is unbelievably well adapted for the role of Stanton, and Kathy Bates is stunning as usual. This movie's real strength comes from it's incredible likeness to reality- the characters bear more than a passing resemblance to their real life counterparts ( Thornton as Carville? Perfect casting!), and even though all of the characters are flawed, you see the humanity and come to feel for all of them.

Kathy Bates absolutely steals the show in this political film based on Joe Klein's book with the same title. The cast, including Emma Thompson, John Travolta (in his best role), Maura Tierney, and Billy Bob Thorton, are all amazing in their own ways but it's definitely Kathy who owns this film. Mike Nichols did a beautiful job directing and Elaine May's hilarious script was easily worthy of the Oscar nomination she received. As for Kathy's Oscar nomination, if only they weren't too busy trying to makeup with Judi Dench's loss in 1997 then she would've rightfully won her second Academy Award.
