Possibly the best war movie ever made if it wasnt for saving private ryan. It is a realistic portrayal of the war in vietam. Much better than apocolypse now. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 1 users found this helpful The movie orbits around the life of Chris Taylor who is incarnated by C.Sheen. Disgusted by the fact that poor people join the war while rich remain apathy he takes an active role and is admitted in a platoon in Vietnam.Soonly afterwards he finds himself trapped in between the unwillingness of the jungle and his partners who mock at him for volunteering. Nevertheless he is excited abt meeting interesting characters from unknown places such as Elias a veteran who kept his humanity intact through the period of years. That is what fundamentals his decision in joining the war.
Chris idealism is crushed when he faces the raw side of the war. His partners are blown to bits, burned to death right next to him. Slaughters and rapes against the local population take place and the betrayed jungle will soon make the young yet naive volunteer to reconsider his status. His morale is declined while he finds himself into two worlds, the world he grew up and the world he will be forced to turn into in order to survive.
The plot of the movie takes an unexpected turn when Elias is killed by sergeant Barnes a psychopath. The platoon divides itself while Chris sworn vengeance for his friend death. Shortly his promise will come true.
The adrenaline reaches its peak at the final battle. The opposites brigades collide with catastrophic consequence for both sides. Human casualties are enormous while a Chris in a moment of despair will kill Barnes
The drama is climaxed on the last scene. Chris is suffering an nervous brake down and in addition he is trying to commit suicide. Chris had suffered what he feared the most, war has turned him in a person he didnt wanted from the beginning. Seconds before pulling the grenade and take his own life away a deer appears out of the middle of nowhere .He quickly evaluates his life and he is thinking, if a deer managed to escape the abortion of a war wouldnt a human being been able to do so? I asked my dad about it and he said it was very real. I went to the store and bot it. When i saw it the first time i was stuck on it like glue. It actually gave me a taste of the tragic vietnam war. It also made me realize how tough it was for our vietnam vetrans. now ive been watching it over and over again. Oliver Stone did a spectacular job captureing the authenticity, and the uglyness of war. I thought the acting performences for Willem Dafoe, Charlie sheen, and Tom Berenger were out of this word.Especially Dafoe. In my opinion, it's the best movie in vietnam, and one of the best war films of all time. This movie was the most real action movie that I have seen. I really felt that I was living all the scenes with Charlie Sheen...I've seen them all and this one is the closest thing to being there.............Take it from someone who knows. Sign In 2 out of 2 users found this helpful Posted: 12/28/2003A review of Platoon by ®andŸø®†øn Platoon was a war movie with some of the most emotional stand points that I have ever seen in my life. At the begginning of the movie the main charactor(who's name you will find out if you watch the movie) is unhappy with what he has gotten himself into seeing as war is not the easiest thing to deal with in life. I give this movie 5 stars because it shows extreme realism and if you did not believe that it was realistic well, then you do not have a real picture of war, but that is your decision, i just believe that this movie is one of the best... and i hope you agree. I've seen it many times since then.

I served in the army from 1988-1992 and this film is as real as it is powerful.
