Sign in 104 out of 139 users found this helpful QUESTIONABLE ENDING BUT STILL A MOST SEEPosted: 7/9/2006A review of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest by tenderfoot_05 Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Mans Chest is a great movie and it is probably better than the first. I say probably because there are some points in the movie that seem a little repetitive from the first, like the jokes and so on. Also at some points they try and make Captain Jack Sparrow to confusing and witty, which turns out to be not as smooth as the first. However, the action and comedy in this movie is far better than last years. Many times during the movie you will be on the edge of your seat. Ive seen a few people jump in the movie. What I like about the movie is how they brought the entire cast back and more, they work really well together and all the characters seemed to grow into their own. Its not just Captain Sparrow who you love to watch its Elizabeth Swan and others on the crew. The only questionable part that I still dont know if I like is the ending. Ive seen it twice already and I still dont know about it, but overall I think it is better than the first and if you love the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy then its a most see! Also it got a little long with the antics the unnessary action seemed to get old towards the end you kind of need to really be into this type of movie to really like it.....however This movie is a summertime blockbuster type hot popcorn cherry icey ..an all. popcorn is .....Frrrreshhhh!!!...overall i give it dvd status ......more of a summertime blockbuster Rental!!!!! Im sorry to say that Pirates II- Deadmans Chest would be well deserving of the black spot by anyone who loved the first movie or was a true fan of swashbuckler films.
I find it hard to admit that the reason Pirates II isnt as good as the original is that its just so. . . unbelievable--especially after the original featured undead pirates and a cursed treasure. But the team who put the original together made us believe in zombie pirates- kind of like believing that a boy could fly. Pirates II is filled with so much CG, so many amazing feats (such as the escape from the cannibals) and so many monsters that its impossible to involve yourself in the movie as we did with the originalPirates.
On the plus side were the performances of Depp, Bloom, Knightley and the entire gang from Pirates. They picked up their characters like theyd never left the set after the first movie. The plot--including the megacorporate East India Trading Company and the Davey Jones and the crew of the Flying Dutchman--was also well written but would have been better achieved if they would have walked a bit closer to the line between fantasy and reality (Barbossa and crew in Pirates may have looked ugly and undead, but at least they looked human you know?)
So, we have to wait until next summer for Pirates III to come out? Maybe Ill wait for the video the following Christmas. In the meantime, Pirates II ye should be walking the plank. Aargh. I would normally just wait until it goes to cable or DVD.
My son was bound and determined to see this movie while it was still in the theatre. So myself, son, daughter and daughters friend caught the early showing at 1145 am.
I must say - Depp really pulled off another one. This was by far the best effort of any sequel since Star Wars. While the plot did start of somewhat slow, it really picks up about midway through the movie.
There is one scene that really got me to chuckle because it brought back memories of sorry Johnnie Wyle E. Coyote. Not a bad thing at all, quite funny in fact. ) I dont want to spoil it - but youll probably pick up on it yourself.
This movie succeeds mainly due to the team effort of the cast, they really seem to work well together. Depp himself seems to transition well from one charactor into another no matter what project hes involved in. And hes never just the same ol Depp.
Dont listen to the bad reviews... decide for yourself.

The cast delivered both impressive depth and hilarity, special affects-costumes-makeup were exceptional, and the locations are breathtaking. As the third installment is being filmed right now, this story line leaves you at the end waiting anxiously for the journeys continuance. It breathes similarities to the Star Wars and Lord of the Rings movies, each having its dark side.
Personally, not a film I would suggest little children see, but teenagers on up should enjoy what it has to offer. You will be shaken from your seat during action sequences, moved by the excellent acting of all the characters, and laugh hysterically during well delivered lines. Bravo to the cast and crew.

Where is the ending to this movie?? It sure was not at the end where it belonged. I am not kidding there is no ending. The end was confusing and set up 3 to be too far fetched. I know this was not a factual movie but do we really need to make it seem like a soap opera? Johnny Depp was really cool and funny. I like that they revealed more of his character in this movie. Orlando Bloom was goragous as ever, and the classic good guy in love. I loved the story line but i hated the ending or lack of ending. There was one scene where Orlando Bloom was in a sword fight with two other people. Come on they could have done better with that one. It was so fake. Watch at your own risk. Was this review helpful? This movie was very well done in the acting aspects. There were a few things that bugged me. Being that I am a music person, Im one of the few people in the world who was bugged by the soundtrack probably. Since it was a new composer, I felt like he was trying so hard not to change the music around, so all that happened was a few variations of the old songs. I love the music from the first one, dont get me wrong. I just wanted to hear new stuff. Also, I hate how there was almost no plot to this movie. It left it way to wide open, when the next movie wont be released for months, to tie everything up. Was this review helpful?
