Sadly, film makers couldn't stave off the urge to capitalize on a perfectly wonderful, $654,264,015 film. They had to make two more movies that were baaaaaaaaaaaaaad. This film and the one before it made a single fatal mistake: they made Jack Sparrow a main character. "Wait," you say, "he was a main character in the first movie which you called 'a perfectly wonderful... film'". Yes, that is true; I did call it that, but Jack Sparrow was only a mascot that had little interference with the actual plot of the first film. He was a likable buffoon that was everyone's favorite character. He didn't really DO anything. In this film, however, Gore Verbinski attempts to make him into a Shakespearean tragic hero, who even says a serious line in this film (that truly killed it for me). Aside from that, this film also suffers from a terrible heavy metal score, which sadly fits right in with the story. Speaking of the story, it too makes little sense, its very much like the writer just took out some old ideas he had, and cut and pasted them into the script. It truly makes the film a chaotic mess, and really makes the viewer sick to their stomach. As a matter of fact, the only good thing I can say about this film is that it is better then its predecessor. Was this review helpful? Nothing against her personally, but is there a reason we care that she was there? Was she in the movie? I think the photos posted should have been of the actors and crew and maybe THEIR families or kids rather than so many shots of Natalie. I must have missed something? (No offense, Nat). It was almost three hours long, and still managed to keep me interested. Was this review helpful? If your mind is full of rubish and you are unable to take in more, then this movie is not for you. For the ones that understand multiple plots, non-stop action, and hidden agendas. This was the movie for you. They don't make movies like this anymore. This movie made you think while you enjoy and a lot of people have lost that. We need more movies like this. People have seen so many movies that two people fight and dont really know what they are fighting for. So please Hollywood create more movies like this. Was this review helpful? It had an unexpected ending, one that was edge-of-your-seat intense but a bit sad. I felt it strayed a bit sometimes; Calypso being freed could have been done better, the millions-of-Jacks scenes could have been replaced with something funnier, and some scenes lacked relevance or humor. However, the loose ends WERE tied up beautifully, and some witty dialogue and good action scenes still make it great.
Despite this, I was a bit disappointed and finally realized why: the character focus failed me. The first movie left off with a friendship between Jack and Will that was very meaningful for me. It wasn't as strong in the second film, but I felt it was still there. In the third, it was depleted.
Jack and Will only have one scene together. The rest of the time, they seem to be becoming enemies, and the ending did not have a satisfactory moment between them. Shifting alliances are only ok to a certain extent. When the film goes by without a single Jack-calling-Will-a-eunuch moment, something is wrong. They had their different, intriguing storylines but none together, not even any wonderful dialogue to tie up the movie. This would have been a five star movie; the other two were. The last star was for my two favorite characters. Pirates 3 fulfilled everything else in the plot, but left the relationship that was its heart and charm hanging. Was this review helpful? Yes, the movie was hard to follow, and yes, it was long. But, it was way worth it. There was more than one occasion where the effects were so amazing that it gave me chills. This movie was not run of the mill, and i think that that is what confused people. It is so different from what everyone expected. There were so many creative and brilliant scenes, and the actors did a magnificent job. Johnny Depp was fabulous! All in all, Jerry Bruckheimer did an amazing job, and so did Klaus Badelt (The music was fabulous). But, like anything, if you go into this movie thinking that it is stupid, or that you're tired, or if you haven't been a follower of the first two, then you won't like it. As for the rest of you, who will go into it with an open mind, you will love it. Enjoy!!
Also, go with a friend that you can whisper to. The plot takes many twists, and it helps to have someone to work them out with. And, make sure to stay after the credits :) Was this review helpful? The special effects were awesome! I don't know why people are saying the story line was hard to follow. Yes, it kept you guessing some, but isn't that a sign of a good movie? Anyways, I loved it and can't wait till it is out on DVD so I can add it to my collection. I may have to go see it again! Was this review helpful? We discussed the whole plot of Calypso being Davy Jones lover, let alone a goddess suppressed by junk from the sea (pieces of 8) was poor; that the contents should have formed something like in most movies. Plus we didn't see anything of Calypso after she disappeared...like her face in the storm when the whirl pool tried to take down the two ships which were at war with each other. My kids and I decided we would not purchase this movie. And rumor is that Pirates 4 is in the making. Was this review helpful? That is what happened in Pirates 2 mateys. A story which relied upon to much special effects and not enough on story or character development to make it a smooth voyage. Shiver me timbers though for Pirates 3 has more than made up for that. With such a strong gripping story and action sequences and new and old characters this film showed that even though you sail through storms you can survive and sail on to a peaceful sea. The right amount of humor, drama, action, and romance made this salty sea loving Captain enjoy this movie and never once cared on the time length. With the way the movie ended it makes you wonder if there will be a fourth film relying primarily on Capt. Jack and Capt. Barbossa.
This film restored my faith in Disney rides being made in to movies. Now if any of you reading this (assuming you can read) I would like to propose an accord which is we start e-mailing Disney to make a Thunder Mountain Train Ride Movie and so help me if any of you suggest a It's a Small World movie I will have you walk the plank and join Davey Jones Locker.
Do we have an accord?

Thought it would be a great night out. We all found the movie too long and boring The movie had too many plot twists to keep you focused. The characters have run there courses especially Capt. Jack. Lots more of the same thing.
The special effects were very good and I did enjoy the small role Keith Richards played, must be my age. Was this review helpful? HIH! Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 5/26/2007A review of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End by JocularAnemone We took our son to see this movie at a packed theater on Friday Night. A college aged girl sat to my left and my husband to my right. The movie was just plain too long, hard to follow, and had too many components to make it understandable and enjoyable. About half way through the movie, I noticed the young girl next to me was asleep, and a few minutes later, so was my husband. The girl snored for about the last 30 minutes of the movie.
