The camerawork was spectacular and the music, by Clint Mansell, was breathtaking. Not to mention, Sean Gullette did a fabulous job with his performance and was undoubtedly the sexiest man I have ever seen in the entire world. That's why it was such a shock to see him as his sleazy, balding character in Darren Aronofsky's other wonderful work, Requiem for a Dream. Oh, and if you loved Pi, you have to see Requiem, it's fantastic. Clint Mansell did the soundtrack for this one too, it's even better, if you can believe it. Was this review helpful? Sign In 2 out of 2 users found this helpful Wow.Posted: 10/22/2002A review of Pi by Sizeable_Bob Y'know, I've never had a flick mess with my head as deeply and effectively as this one did.The xenophobic Max is a rare character in film - he knows he's driving himself crazy, he knows WHY he's driving himself crazy...but he keeps chasing his answers anyway, and we get to ride along with him thanks to some claustrophobic atmosphere, brilliant camerawork, and a skittering score that sounds rather like being on the inside of a nervous breakdown.The plot is tricky to wade through in spots (the mathematics will turn off many who don't like to think about their suspense films), and Pi can be difficult to keep up with. Make the effort - it's worth it.Fair warning...Aronofsky's near-fetishistic repetition of certain images - particularly the almost convulsive pill-popping by Max - will have you paranoiacally searching for patterns as the film progresses.
