When I watched this film I was expecting an intense courtroom drama, instead, I was struck at the heart. Jonathon Demmes suberp masterpiece is simply breathtaking. Tom Hanks well deserved his Oscar win, and even though I dont support gays, I still cared about the main character (who was gay) because they are still human beings. What happened to him was wrong and immoral and throughout the whole film youre rooting for Hanks side to win. Denzel Washington was excellent as the only lawyer who would take Hanks case, and even though he didnt like gays himself, he still learned that they are still human and just as caring as any other guy on the block. I was surprised Neil Youngs Philadelphia song at the end of the movie lost its Academy Award to Bruce Springsteins Streets Of Philadelphia. Im not just saying that because Im a huge Neil Young fan, for I like Bruce Springstein too, but I felt Neil Youngs song was so much more emotional. Every line that was sung from Neils voice at the end simply made me shutter. But anyways, the film is very good. Tom Hanks best performance ever and deffinitely worth seeing.

I have seen this....not movie...but masterpiece several times and each time it touches my heart and makes me want to say two words in patois to those employers.<br>i do not have t mention how fabulous tom hanks' performance was ....after all he won an award for it...antonio banderas is sooo cute ...i want to hold him and never let him go...they are the cutest gay couple ive ever seen...with a genuine concern and caring...denzel....mmm....beautiful... how he captivates me in that court room ...particuklary when he uses the mirror to show the lesions and when he gives his speech...praised by andrew...that this case is not only about aids but homosexuality. this movie is not only informative and entertainging...but a work of art that will continue to touch all who watch it...five stars and no less...if only there were more

An important statement in our time. Andrew Beckett is a promising young attorney who has just been appointed Senior Associate to his firm. He seems to have everything going his way until his physical health rears the ugly truth of HIV into his future. On top of other adjustments, he finds that his goodtime professional associates have deserted him and have faced him with the hopeless task of a lawsuit against his own firm for wrongful termination on a trumped-up charge to mask their own prejudice. He turns to his only solace, a 'storefront' lawyer who is a total stranger. Together they must face a legal behemoth to set an important precedent in the &quot;;City Of Brotherly Love&quot;;. This is a very timely subject that was handled skillfully by all concerned and earned Hanks a well deserved Best Actor Oscar. Also sporting a visionary and poignant sequence as Beckett recounts a scene from an opera; never before attempted in this manner as far as I know. Count yourself among the few and the proud if you can find 'B' movie mogul Roger Corman in a brief cameo. Julius Irving: Himself

This movie is definitely one to see if you haven't watched it yet. Firts of all, it contains the 2 great actors of our time. Hanks should have received 5 oscars for his part in this movie. A must see
