The film has recieved some mixed reviews, usually either completely hating it or loving it. When reading the reviews below, I notice most of the complaints by those who disliked the film overview a certain humanizing of terrorists against the Jewish people and promoting anti-Semitism. However, it would be important to note that this film was CO-PRODUCED by Amir Harel who is a JEWISH ISRAELI. By no means is this film condoning suicide bombings, rather it IS trying to deliver perspectives by those on the side that is normally ignored by most of the mass media. Understanding and appreciating a situation doesnt equate condoning terrorism. Attacks and injustices are occurring on a daily and (unfortunately) frequent basis with little optimism for the future. One thing is certain in pursuit of solutions, one must take into account ALL perspectives in order to help understand the complexities factoring into these delicate situations. This film provides a ground for that. Years of dehumanizing the Palestinian people hasnt helped make the situation better for ANYONE, perhaps an alternative approach to understanding will.

I felt this movie gave a different view from suicide bombing. Not a for or against one, but more a realistic view, Im a palestinian and although Im against suicide bombings, I dont think the intentions of this movie was to make you feel sorry for the suicide bombers, its more like to understand why they do this. Im against it all the way, because I too have lost people in suicide bombings and might lose more or even lose my own life, but I do understand why they do this. All in all, this movie is certainly a good quality dramatic and very realistic movie, not only does it portray a more humanitic view towards suicide bombing, also those who assumed that this movie was to make us feel sorry for suicide bombings or we are FOR suicide bombings. As you can see, Suha was against it and started to tell them how it was wrong, and its probably why they didnt tell their family either.... Because they are against it, or atleast dont like it. This is a very good quality movie, and also it should be watched with an open mind, because theres more of a deeper sense in the movie than you think.

I wish we could see a better balance of the issues facing both sides...this movie is controversal and should be followed up with more depicting the struggles of peace makers on both sides. But , I am afraid that it will be followed with more demonizing of the Palestinians. If this conflict was going on anywhere else Hollywood would have made tons of balanced movies...When we see children of both sides as victems...then we could achieve peace. This was a start...now lets see some more ...

Who would want to glamorize these mindless indigents? And who would want to watch this garbage. Is this film supposed to make us feel for these cold-blodded killers. Maybe Michael Moore might enjoy it, but I hope Middle America feels the same as I do, and also does the same as I do and SKIP this movie. Only one star because I have to give to.

Its refreshing to see how movies sometimes can still depict the desperation and debilitating circumstances that lead a man to do something that is so heinous. The human psyche in all its magnificent glory still consists of a lot of grey matter. The visuals of this movie are absolutely stunning and the dialogue is strong and purposeful. Although this movie may not be liked by many, I still think it is a must to watch it atleast once.

This film has indeed fulfilled a purpose. It is emotional and shows much of the psychological difficultly that enters a suicide bombers head. This film is captivating but must be seen with caution. It is rather one sided and mostly dipicts the Palestian side of the conflict. I am not a Jew nor a Israel loving person. I am simply acknowledging a fact that must be recognized. Honestly, the vivid image of that young Israeli boy on the bus was enough to show the sick and evil actions of the Palestinian suicide bombers. A people must fight the enemy, not the perceived enemy. The reason Hamas won the recent PLO elections was not because of their stance on Israel, rather, because the Fatah ruling party for the past 20 odd years was corrupt and led the Palestians into a decline of poverty, ruin and dependance on others. Israel is a scapegoat for the Fatah party, an excuse, not the innocent people who should be exploded like pieces of meat. The bombers, if for some stupid reason decide to kill themselves as well as others, should make the others their true oppressors, the backward Fatah party. Just take that as a cautionary note. It appears as though the directors often create a unwarrented bias against Israel. Israel is not perfect by any means, but not the true enemy. Fatah indeed is.

This movie shows what has been missing in the US for so long - an explanation of how much the Palestinians have suffered under occupation. I have always wondered what kind of conditions might produce the desperate measures of the Palestinian resistance. Now I know. It is one of historys great crimes to pit the Jewish people, who had suffered so much in Europe, against the Palestinians, who of course had nothing to do with the holocaust. People here need to know the facts about Palestine.

Posted: 10/25/2005A review of Paradise Now by Charles373
It's not surprising that emotions run high in this movie powder keg about two Palestinian suicide bombers -- Said (Kais Nashef) and Khaled (Ali Suliman) -- on a mission to Tel Aviv. What does amaze is the humane and nonpartisan treatment of the topic by Palestinian director and co-writer Hany Abu-Assad. By detailing two days in the lives of these young mechanics -- they've been friends since childhood -- as they prepare to sacrifice their future for a cause they barely understand, the director puts a human face on the headlines. Shot in the West Bank, the film radiates authenticity. Even when he plays the action like a thriller, Abu-Assad is in search of a deeper truth.
