The harmonica melody supports this super-satisfying movie. The characters...all very well done by effective acting....stay with you way after the movie ends.
I would suggest that this is one of Charles Bronson's finest films....and Henry Fonda: excellent in this role. Jason Robards stays with his character throughout ... what a good-bad balance. Claudia Cardinale plays her role very well...seriously emotional and tough...her eyes speaking way louder than her words.
You'll enjoy this western..a bit long...but absolutely worth it! Was this review helpful? Only movie Henry Fonda ever made where he is a bad guy, and in this film he is really nasty. The scene where Jack Elam entertains a fly that lands on his face is worth the price of the film alone. Not as cute as in 8 and a half, but a wonder of nature, nevertheless.
And the story!! WOW what a revenge plot. This movie makes me feel powerful, like I can punch through brick. The redemption is so enthrilling and intoxicating I just love it!
and of course theres the music. Ennio Morricone is the most brilliant and creative film composer I have ever heard.
There is nothing difficult to understand about this movie. If you watch it, you cant help but be mesmerized by it. Was this review helpful? You'll always get controversey about "the best", so I'll concede that it is one of "the best". This movie manages to combine 5 story lines effectively, create the energy of opening the wild west, revenge, love, friendship, evil and did I mention revenge. Every actor fulfills their role. It's gritty, in your face, and just the right pace to soak it in, just like a dry, hot, dusty August day in Noparticular Place, WEST. Everything is perfect in this movie, even the music. I wish I had seen it on the big screen, but now I catch it on TV or rent it. If I start to watch, I can't leave. It's 4 hours with commercials, so tape it.This is not a chick flick, it's not a feel good movie, it's a friggin western right to the last bullet. One of the best if not "the best". Yes, better than GB&U and the $ trilogy. I am always amazed at the number of western fans who have not seen this masterpiece.Charles Bronson is awesome, as are HF, JR, and CC (va-va-voom!). The opening scene is a classic as is the ending.My favorite western since I saw it for the first time back in the 70's.WARNING _ It is a very LONG movie. Do not watch with commercials. Claudia Cardinale is (among other things)easy to watch!Great story, great directing, great acting.It is long, but I've watched it more than once and can't help but appreciate everyone's input in the making of a ";REAL WESTERN";.
