Although there seemed to be an ongoing theme of confronting & accepting death, the various interpretations of God, Angels, and whatever they all were was rather muddy to say the least. Trying to follow and make sense of things as the movie plodded along was less than enjoyable or even thought provoking. The 'messages' winding thru the feature should have been easier to perceive. I kept thinking that it should have been much better. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful I thought watching movies was supposed to entertain you. This was a painful one to sit through. The film attempted to be artsy and clever but was dull and full of one liners that forced you to crack a smile and groan. The cast was outstanding but goofy. The bad jokes about Minnesota offended me personally since I am from there, but then I thought, "how ironic." They are cracking jokes about Minnesota being such a bad place as they stand on the edge of a treeless wasteland in Montana calling it "God's finest work." The religious overtones were too much too. Since when do angels get their wings cut off and become mortal; I thought it was the other way around. Whatever! Crap! Was this review helpful? The gift of this totally confusing-in-structure movie is that it has the power to tantalize you into watching the entire oddity hopefully spin it's way into making sense. I guess it never really does, although it does... kind of. HAHA!! I giggled at the bizarre converstations and it's most memorable line, unquestionably, is..."whatchu talkin' about Willis?" An obvious outtake left in.
Was this review helpful? All hope that some kind of cohesive plot will emerge is lost after the first half hour of slow paced Montana scenery. Was this review helpful? The child seemed to be dying and maybe this was his dream? The acting was very good and scenery haunting. I wanted to like this movie but it was above my head I guess. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 1 users found this helpful This film proved to me just how important GOOD DIRECTING is to the product. I saw really fine actors, over act, under act, maby act side ways. The "professional" critics "loved" it (That old story about the emporer and his cloths, or lack of them, comes to mind.) It's "in" to "love" wierd and low budget now, it seems.
I thankfully was offered a refund for my ticket since the focus was so off they had to stop and fix it. I just thought it was part of the "art". Seemed to fit with the rest quite well.
As for the "story", I wasn't amused watching them try to get laughs from the way the body of a dead woman would smell when her son, and husband had to dig her up from a grave yard about to become a lake. Nor did I find "God" in the form of a mute rinestone cowboy to be very creative. The question that kept coming up for me was, WHY?
Save you $$ The chances of the focus going out again are unfortunately slim. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1-6 of 6 Per Page | ||
