It is creepy, and chilling when zombies grab at flesh. People get trapped in a rural neighbood, when these "lifeless" beings roam the area and hunt them down. This is one film to share at Halloween!
Awesome action and suspense. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 6/24/2006A review of Night of the Living Dead by Purple_Grim_Reaper This movie is fantastic. Many people I know do not like horror films, but I have gotten them to sit down and watch this. And guess what? They liked it.
The main issue presented in the film did not appeal to them, but they soon found themselves entranced by the realistic terror and conflics conveyed by the characters. There are still very few great horror films out there, simply because they do not display true human nature under terrifying circumstances. There are far too many macho, one-man-army characters in this potentially artistic genre, the sort of person who would be absent or considered idiotic in 9 out of 10 real-life situations, and is satisfyingly absent in this movie.
Better yet, in my opinion, is that the hoards of flesh-eating zombies were one of the main problems in the film, but were not overused. Zombie-focused scenes were shot to emphasize a characteristic of them, to create still more suspense in the plot, and to horrify the audience by showing how these creatures were once normal human beings who would never have dreamed of harming another person.
The rest of the film was filled with engaging dialogue that youd expect to hear if this were really happening. However, do not think you will see stereotypes here. First, Romero used an African-American actor in a time period when African-Americans were still generally mistrusted. We have the concerned, over-protective father who sincerely believes he is doing the right thing by looking out only for his family. There is his wife who disagrees with his outlook, but wishes to help her injured daughter as much as he does. We have the traumatized Barbara whose condition deteriorates as the film progresses. And lastly, we have the young couple who try to keep the survivors together for the safety that numbers present.
Night of the Living Dead is a beautifully created independent film that has earned its place in both film and horror history. Was this review helpful? It's not only an horror movie but a social and political analysis really well-done and developed... But if you like living deads and all that stuff you will not be disappointed.<br>It's the first part of Romero's Trilogy... Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead. It has some of the best acting directing casting and story line and action for any movie, take your pick. The beginning should be sampled for a music video intro Was this review helpful? Night of the Living Dead is truly a masterpiece of horror, well concieved, and well executed, and George Romero was one of the first horror directors to give us true horror, in which there need not be a happy ending. Stark,black--and white images lend an intense air ofscarinessas well as a heightened awareness, and attentionpaid to the fact that;";This isn't a passing wind";";We've got to do something, and fast!"; Old-fashionmusic-underscore make it reminiscent of30's,40'shor-flicks,an-stellar performances by refreshingcast of '67-unknowns give it a modern feel. I was just a wee lad when the film was released but saw enough of it that I hated it because it was so scary to me. This original, independent production changed the direction of horror films for all that came after it. By venturing from the implied to the explicit in terms of effects, a new cinematic trail was blazed. Cloning and escalation of these effects are what makes it seem so tame today, but by 1968 standards, there was nothing like it before. Mostly I just love the film because it reminds of when I used to be afraid of silly things like ";flesh-eating ghouls"; instead of the real worries of life. Not to mention the folks who produced and starred in the film are just plain wonderful, kind, people who loved their work and appreciate their fans. Thanks to all who worked so hard to make such fun childhood memories for me, and especially to Kyra, Karl, and Marilyn. Was this review helpful? I saw it when I was a kid and it still scares me.The actors and writers were excellent. The only think I would change is the ending. Ben didnt need to die. He could have gone on to help kill the zombies. But, since it ended the way it did it still was excellent!!! Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 1 users found this helpful Posted: 10/29/2002A review of Night of the Living Dead by SethMichaelMcDaniel this movie is an ok movie. it is decent for a horror movie made in the early years. the special effects was probably the best part of it, and thats bad nowing that you could tell it was make-up. this movie is worth watching again but is over rated. Was this review helpful? Sign In 2 out of 4 users found this helpful Posted: 10/18/2002A review of Night of the Living Dead by Sandman23271 This is by far one of the classics of the horror genre. Romero defined the zombie movies with this classic which most movies try to measure themselves by. Was this review helpful? Sign In 2 out of 3 users found this helpful Posted: 10/19/2002A review of Night of the Living Dead by Jhambala One of the first films to capitalize on what could be done in horror since Psycho. Perhaps only Texas Chainsaw creates as ugly a mood. But this goes one step further in having the bad guys tracking you down and eating you wherever you are. First, this film shows us how much to explain and not to explain. We know that the dead have risen from the grave, we know they eat the living, we know those bitten become zombies, and that's it. A lot of horror movies lose power when they try to explain too much. We never really know why this is happening making that much more frightening. Secondly, the acting is surprisingly good. This adds so much to a B-movie. You can't say enough about this movie. This, along with Exorcist and Psycho should be in the top three. Was this review helpful? Sign In | ||
