It should not have been made period. Dont wast your money on the dvd or the video. This is as bad as Battlefield Earth. Was this review helpful? I loved Colin Firth in Bridget Jones Diary, and here he plays a similarly reserved character. The movie was a little over the top but my son loved it. If your looking to take your child to a movie that will have them laughing and fully engrossed, this movie seems to do the trick! I especially liked the lessons the nanny had for the children. Nanny McPhee is based on the series of Nurse Matilda books by Christanna Brand. Using these silly adventures as a baseline, Emma Thompson, who also stars in the movie, wrote a brilliantly funny story that will entertain all.
This story is one of fantasy and magic. The viewer follows the troubles of a poor, widowed father, Mr. Brown, played by Colin Firth, who has seven unruly children left in his care. At the head of the seven brats is Simon, played by Thomas Sangster, who takes great care and preparation in terrorizing his nannies. Nanny after nanny is driven away by the childrens obnoxiousness until Mr. Brown finally hits rock bottom. Then, by some form of a miracle, Nanny McPhee (Thompson) comes into the picture. She teaches the children, as well as their father, what good behavior truly is.
Along with the taming of these wild children, there is also a side story of romance between Mr. Brown and his scullery maid, Evangeline, played by Kelly Macdonald. Taken away to a charm school by Aunt Adelaide (Angela Lansbury), Evangeline comes back a proper woman. Her arrival is just in time to stop Mr. Brown from marrying a completely horrid woman to save his family from financial ruin.
Along with the rest of his design team, director Kirk Jones does a wonderful job with the set and costumes for this movie. Every piece of clothing or set design add depth to the time period and social status of the family. With the help of a beautifully written script, the actors were superb and the comedic timing of all was on-point. I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys a little fantasy in their life. Was this review helpful? As a mans man I thought I would hate it...just the opposite...very entertaining for me as well as the kids. Was this review helpful? For those who are debating whether or not to take young children to go because of the previous reviews stating that there are things a young child should never be exposed to, please, dont be deterred. One Any content like that is brief and well hidden. Two if your child hasnt already been exposed anything of that sort, they would take what was going on (the father falling on the woman and such) to be normal physical comedy, nothing sexual. Three I went with my 5 year old little cousin and he kept commenting after the film how funny it was that the (and I quote), Lady thauwght dat da man was twying to get her hat! Four Its not as if they wont be exposed soon enough anyway, if you arent convinced, by way of internet, cable, or magazines.
Altogether, this movie was truly a delight and Id hope to go see it again. Emma Thompson is amazing!

The Game is unloyal to 50. he should be giving homage cause without 50 he wouldnt be successful. me and 50 cent are distant relatives. and yall better believe it cause its true. we both grew up in the same hood in queens. he was my homie. i still talk to him. and this is no joke. I just wanted to get out of the house and do something. I arrived at the theater and was suprised to see that almost all of the movies were Korean, except Nanny McPhee and King Kong. I had already seen King Kong, so I opted for the nanny. I enjoyed the movie, as did everyone in the theater. Both foreigners and locals left the theater laughing and saying how good it was. Any negative comments about adult themes in the movie are over the top. The scene with his fiance is adult oriented, but harmless enough for any child. I would recomend the movie to friends and strangers alike. Was this review helpful? This one of the few movies for kids that comes right out with morals. Kids cant look into the hidden meaning of things, for them to understand morals or lessons, the movie has to come right out and say it and this film does that. Both my mother and I said that children under 8 might be slightly scared only because there are some points were it would be kinda intimidating for them. It was sooooo cute. The children were such demons, they acted like ever child would in their situation, but they were funny. I dont think there is anyone who wouldnt enjoy this movie. Was this review helpful?
