This movie was just hilarious. Jack Black and Hector Jimenez were an awesome pair. I dont remember the last time I laughed so hard.
Perhaps the majority of these people giving these low reviews are the types that dont like to think outside the box, so to speak. They only understand one type of comedy and if a movie doesnt exactly fit that description, then its automatically pushed off as trash. More than likely, these people are the same ones that didnt comprehend the comedy in Napoleon Dynamite, and possibly Kung Pow as well.
If you love slapstick comedy and arent afraid to laugh at random, out of the blue punchlines, then this movie is for you. But if you tend to lean toward comedies that point out where you should be laughing, and run with the rest of the comedic, mediocre bunch, then I suggest staying at home and waiting for the next Pixar movie to come out. My spouse agrees--this movie was the worst movie weve seen in many years--and we go to the movies EVERY week! It was predictable, adolescent, but MOST OF ALL, NOT FUNNY.
We are huge Jack Black fans, so you can imagine how bad it was when I tell you we walked out of it before the end. We wanted our money back. Save yours--go see something else. Black and Jimenez evolve during the show into characters that I would like to see evolve even more in a sequel. I can see the Napoleon Dynamite genius in this show too. I am not generally a fan of Jack Blacks movies, though I get his humor, and I like him, somehow I just dont like his movies. I stayed open minded, though, and went with my husband. This would in fact have been his kind of movie it if it were at all funny. Okay, farting always gets a laugh. That was it. I fidgeted through the whole movie, waiting for something to strike me laugh out loud funny. Never happened. Even my husband kept apologizing throughout the movie. My 11-year-old son is a huge Jack Black fan (and I did appreciate his humor in School of Rock and Saving Silverman, to name a few) and even my son left the theater wondering where the laughs had gone. If you have seen the previews or trailer, then youve seen EVERY possibly comedic moment in this horrible film. Wait for the DVD, and then wait to buy the DVD when it drops into the Wal-Mart bargain bin a week later. Yuck. Funny throughout with lots of ugly people to laugh at. Not an academy award winner but excellent afternoon entertainment. Nice to see a fat guy comfortable with his body. Many people have compared this film to Napolean Dynamite but i do not see the similarities. I found NapDyn to be extremely boring with a few clever lines, Nacho was outright funny.
To apreciate the humor one must be able to digest the horrible spanish accent, slightly racist undertone of the movie with the humor it was meant to display.
