I love it for (despite) all of it's cheesy acting, bad special effects, and paper thin plot. I grew up watching this film; I've seen it a dozen times and it is clearly placed among my other DVDs.
Now, does that mean it should get 5 stars just because I enjoy it? No. Mortal Kombat, if taken seriously, is a bad movie. See all the reasons above. But if what you're looking for is a fun popcorn movie that doesn't require a whole lot of thinking, than this could be the film you're looking for. If nothing else, this movie is suprememly entertaining. The soundtrack is great, though the soundtrack for the second film, the truly awful, and not in a good way, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, I feel is better. I adore Christopher Lambert as Raiden.
So I give it three stars for the sheer fun, camp factor.
If you disagree, you can challenge me to kombat. Was this review helpful? I was wrong though, it was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! The cast was a great choice, especially Christopher Lambert as Raiden. He was born to play that role. The story had the right idea from the first game, so thats a plus. Also, it had my favorite characters Scorpion and Sub-Zero in it! You like Mortal Kombat? Get this movie! Was this review helpful? I really hope they make another movie. They are a lot of Mortal Kombat fans who want another one!! This franchise is one of the best there is!! Was this review helpful? The movie I got to say had the same exprience when it I was in theater and you herd the theme song play it was an out of this world sound, it was great. And i personilly want to give big ups to Ed Boon and say "Not A bad job" it was great and i'll like to send a shout out to Midway to keep the Mortal Kombat series alive. Was this review helpful? Chris Lambert displays a wicked sense of humor and although he is not the star he is a scene stealer when present. This movie reminds me a little of "Big Trouble in Little China" starring Kurt Russell. It's tongue in cheek attitude is refreshing and while you may not rush out to buy the video game, it would make a great rental for those rained out baseball days when it takes a hour for pizza delivery. The music is energetic and the characters are fun. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 2 users found this helpful Posted: 9/5/2003A review of Mortal Kombat by lynxie1111 Don't miss this one! I'm not into fight movies so the fact that I even LIKE, let alone love this movie enough to have bought it and watch it at least 2 dozen times came as a total suprise to me. (Actually, I stumbled onto it quite by accident)<br>Don't be fooled, the movie isn't about fighting, although it came loosely wrapped in that package. It has much deeper meanings that can best be appreciated by someone who is into esoteric matters. In that sense, it's very much like The Matrix, which is also very esoteric, yet comes wrapped up as a computer story. Was this review helpful? The film is based upon and follows the storyline of the world-renown video game. With an amazing cast including Robin Shou, Christopher Lambert, and more, it's hard to deny the acting experience. The martial arts are very well executed and the special effects are near top of the line. The soundtrack is also one of the top in movie history. This is a must-see, especially for all Mortal Kombat game fans. Was this review helpful?
