All the parents who were misled into thinking that this movie would be appropriate for children made the false assumption that just because this movie was made in a cartoon medium, it would cater to childrens interests. Bad move. Was this review helpful? After 10 minutes we had to turn off the movie and put in another one we already own. Luckily we made that decision quickly enough to avoid the nightmares that would have inevitably occured that night. What a disappointment! If you are going to use animation as a medium to portray a not-for-young-children movie, atleast have the decency to let us know.
It seemed like a fun movie for a teenager to adult audience, but definetly not for kids. Was this review helpful? It had me laughing and actually hiding my eyes behind my hands at some points! Definately NOT a movie for young children. I am shocked that it was geared as a family movie. It would scare anyone under 13 quite a bit.
Again I enjoyed the characters, the story and yes even the horror aspect of it. I am NOT a horror film fan so this one was right up my alley. NO blood, no gore...just a good scary, funny movie. While I was enjoying the content, I happened to look down and my children to see how they are doing, both of them are covering their eyes and hunged down in their chair. The scene we were at was about a child sleeping alone and all of a sudden a giant hand of a shadow came alive and attacked...
The is not what I want my children to watch and having nightmare as a result of watching.
It is an entertaining movie I am sure but not for children under 13 in my humble opinion. Was this review helpful? I wish I had read some of these reveiws before we went. It is definately NOT for younger children even though the ads for it are geared toward them. My 5 year old got scared a few times and my 3 year old flat out said he didnt like it because it was scary. It was a very dark movie with some adult situations, especially the scenes involving the babysitter and her drunk boyfriend. The story line itself was over the heads of younger children. At one point, one of the characters ends up laying on a decayed body. I really think the film deserved a PG13 rating. I would definately caution other parents not to take yopunger children to see it or let them watch it on DVD. Was this review helpful? RATE IS NOT FOR PG,,,,,NOT FOR PG13,,,,, MAY BE PG18 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Was this review helpful? Sign In 2 out of 3 users found this helpful Posted: 8/16/2006A review of Monster House by Brandnewpunkangel2 While the movie is being advertised primarily on Cartoon Network and other channels aimed at young children, this movie is really not for little kids. Not only is the movie too dark and too scary but ultimately there are times when situtions and dialogs are simply inappropriate for younger children. At one point the babysitter invites over her boyfriend over who proceeds to get drunk and try to rape the babysitter on the couch. Another 10-15 minutes of the movie is devoted to the two main characters spending all night watching the Monster House and peeing in soda bottles. This movie is definately not wholesome family entertainment and probably would have been more accurately rated PG13. Was this review helpful? I understand the content is for an older crowd but I felt that the movie had no flow or symmetry to it.
It was very disjointed and weird. Was this review helpful? We thought it was very odd and definately one we wouldnt like to see again. It was very disjointed and it was difficult for me not to want to leave the theater! Was this review helpful? THE STORY LINE HAD MORE OF AN ADULT CONTENT WITH THE HOME BEING POSSESED BY THE MANS DEAD WIFE. PARENTS WERE GETTING UP AND TAKING THEIR CHILDREN FROM THE THEATRE. SO BEWARE IT IS SCAREY ENOUGH TO FRIGHTEN YOUR CHILDREN. Was this review helpful? The story line was a bit strange, the ending could have been written better for the kids. Great animation and effects. Characters were good! Better suited for the 9-12 yo range.
