From the subtle but present score to the cinematography, Monsters Ball is an engrossing film. Its a raw experience of emotional survival. I was taken into the picture and into the idof each and every character. WOW! Clear your mind, cause this ones gonna take you for a ride!! So what if theres s sex scene? It was tastefully done and for a reason!!! I challenge you to watch that movie and not cry.

I did not like this movie. I felt Halle Berry was too good an actress to stoop to the level of performing. This was a low grade pornographic flick. I was not impressed with the plot, acting, or anything else in this movie. I couldn't believe she actually accepted the part in this movie. This was a generic brand movie that was made famouse because of Halle removing her clothes. I refuse to watch this degrading garbage again, and won't be recommending it to anyone else.

I thought the movie was great .<br>The first time I saw the movie I thought she did a good job . I thought she was a woman who needed to feel loved and in the end she relized that, that man did love her and that was what she was looking for, and what she need .She was lonely and now some one really cared .

A piece of trash. Halle's acting was subpar and the sex scence was pornographic. I like watching a nice piece of ass as much as the next fellow but I rather watch it sans the racist attached to it. Bad examples set by this movie. It's no wonder it drove Eric Benet into the arms of other women.

I was fortunate enough to not go see this movie in theaters. Instead I waited until after the Oscar's and rented this movie along with Training Day. As a young african american female, I wanted to watch both of these movies and find out exactly what all the histeria was about and just how good were these movies that Denzel and Halle were able to sweep the Oscars. There are a few words that describe Monster's Ball in all its glory: Piece of Crap. This is the worst thing I've seen in a long time. The whole movie ^!@$ed. Halle portrayed a "white man's whore." Those are not my words, but I've heard several people use that term towards her role in that movie. Rumor has it that Angela Bassett was originally offered that role but she would not accept it because it was degrading. Everyone says Halle won the Oscar because she played "outside her normal role." Let's look back at her career. Halle has always been either a drug addict or ghetto girl. The only difference is that in this movie she has a southern accent. I was very disappointed in her performance and this movie. The movie ^!@$ed in general. That was the worst ending ever. I will say however that after winning an Oscar, she has been offered other roles and hey, she was even a Bond girl. As far as her winning an Oscar and it being a landmark in black history for being a nicotine addicted, alcoholic whore, I'll pass. Plus she's mixed, so it doesn't count for us anyway.

I truly wonder what made Halle Berry won the Academy for this movie. I just can't see the depth of her acting in this movie. She is a good actress, really, but I doubt if her performance in this movie was her best, and the best among the other nominees, for that matter. I just didn't empathize with her and an audience being able to empathize with an actor's character is the true measure of how good an acting is. The love scenes...i think the movie will do without them. They're unnecessarily long, too! And the ending...too open-ended it leaves the audience feeling duped or something. I gave this movie 2 stars, though, because of Heath Ledger. Eventhough he only had a small role, it was a meaty one and he portrayed it beautifully.

Halle Berry and Billy Bob Thorton are at the top of their game. They &quot;;become&quot;; their characters and we feel it.I'd see the movie again just for the love scene. She is one hot lady!

Anyone with experience of the rural south will know this movie showed the typical southern social enviroment -whatever well meaning, liberal &quot;;yankees&quot;; may think. Berry played an uneducated, basically good and honest woman trying to survive with little options available to her. Certainly not an opportunistic whore as some reviews would have you believe. The much talked about sex scene was necessary to give illustration and power to the highly charged tension between Berry and Thornton. Yes, it is explicit but it was also mutual, without force or coersion on either part. All actors in this movie played their parts with an uncanny accuracy to what is the socioeconomic reality of the rural south. Watch it and learn...
