The Storyline blew me away at how deep and mind blowing it was. Some people may not like this movie, maybe a little to out there for some. Im not going on what I hear or what someone else told me. This is a strikingly beautiful movie with a wonderful story that unfolds to us in its own time. The story is classic Neil Gaiman, in that it the story has the feel of mythology. It is very strange and yet very familiar at the same time. While the special effects are absolutly stunning (the Jim Henson Company hasnt done this well since The Dark Crystal) they are not used to overshadow that story or the characters, but to greatly enhance them. Those familiar with the other works of Gaiman and Dave McKean will feel as though theyve fallen into the world that these two have crafted so many times in their graphic novels. You know how they always say that the book was better, I really, Really, REALLY hope that they gave credit to Peter Straub and Steven King for the novel. I mean come on, if anyone has already read the book of this topic you would know that it follows- no not follows - may I say Mirrors The Talisman. See ( http(slash)(slash)www.imdb.com(slash)ti tle(slash)tt0384580 ). Appearently in post production they dont know when it is to be comming out. Remember right befor Rambo - First Blook Pt2 came out, there was that really cheesy Chuck Norris version Missing in Action. Same thing. Cheap knock off before the real one comes out. Mirrormask is one of those rare movies that just work. It would make as much sense to dissect it as to subject Mona Lisa to a mass-spectroscopy. There is a level in film-making that defies catalogization, and trying to slap a genre on Mirrormask would be as instructional as labeling Bergmans Wild Strawberries a road trip movie. It would suffice to say that Gaiman and McKean succeeded in creating an alternate reality that once existed only in Gaimans novels like Americans Gods, Neverwhere, and Stardust. Mirrormask has the amazing quality of suspended reality that Gilliam spent all on Brazil and Time Bandits and that the creators of photographic fantasies of Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and Narnia never quite had in the first place. I am very sorry that the other reviewer didnt enjoy the movie much, but you know, whatching too much of Larry the Cable Guy does it to people... Was this review helpful? If you have, it must have been at some meeting of the Secret Lord of the Rings Harry Potter Star Trek Convention of Nerds. IF you have actually seen this movie, please oh please write a review to tell the world how crappy it was so we as the citizens of the USA can ruin some guys short lived dream of stardom.
