Patricia Arquettes portrayal of a housewife and mother who finds herself gifted with the ability to see the dead, predict the future, and read minds is phenomenal. The clever balancing of the marriage and family with the crime-solving aspect makes this a show well worth making the time to see. The relationship of Allison and Joe Dubois and their struggle to have a normal family life is expertly written and played by Arquette and Jake Weber as her husband. Allisons ability to see the truth behind crimes allows her to help the police and DA solve the crimes and bring criminals to justice. The family dynamic, Joe and their three kids, who are all showing signs of having Allisons gift, is real and the situations and issues are things that everyday families deal with. This aspect makes the characters relatable and the stories believable, even with the psychic abilities that Allison has.
