i rented this movie it was ok, but not worth renting or buying. its all about the poltics of kings and queens. also there is one scene where she is trying on shoes and you see a pair of converse tennis shoes sittng there. oops either the director sleped or converse really really really old. lol but all the movie is ok but wait for it on cable or tv just my opinion, more reviews comming

This flick made no-sense. I have read about this period and its an interesting time period. But, the film made no-sense. The music was distracting and annoying. It played in the film like eating potatoe chips and chewing gum at the same time. The movie was flashing images of shoes and cloths. The dialog was whispers and bits of info but it was completely incoherent. It was like someone had flashed images and scenes. There was no links or any kind of plot or story. If you did not know the history of the time it made no sense. The actors looked at each other and whispered and Kristen Dunst was imaged as some 18th Century Paris Hilton. I am not sure what the director had in mind with the film. But, there is another film made in the 1930s about Marie Antoinette. This is a good film and the film has characters and dialog and story and plot.

I went in not anticipating much, but it was much worse than I could have possibly expected. From the story board to the cast, it was, in one word, a-w-f-u-l . . . just painful. OK, so the costumes were good, so what?

Waste of money and time. The music choices reminded me of a 1970s porn movie, the story line was factually incorrect and very tiresome. The acting and props and scenery were wonderful...a shame to see wasted. Worst of all, the movie ended without Marie meeting her tragic end. If you didnt know history, youd think she escaped her death. Go see something else.

Really, if you never saw a period movie and you were 12-years-old youd probably love this movie. I think Kirsten Dunst can act but didint in this movie. Sofia has a vision, she just needs glasses. Its like she gets to play at directing and then all hell breaks loose in a bad way. I know her father must be proud, as fathers tend to be, but... Visually, it is eye candy for the sweet tooth and no brain. I know they had to get a female actress who is rather able to pull off being young, but they should have thought about, Kate Winslet, I know she cant be all movies but at least she can act. This shows my ignorance, whom did Maryann Faithful play?

Just wasted 2 hours of my time watching a movie that never got going! There was hardly any conversation between the actors in this movie, just knowing (?) glances. It could have been a really interesting historical movie but it didnt build on what was happening in France during this time. All we saw was her attempt at filling her life with parties, clothes and champagne to blot out her loneliness. We sure got to see how the rich lived but not the poor. It didnt tell us what happened to her and her family at the end. They just drove off into the sunset!!! And it was boring.

If Marie Atoinettes life was as boring and pointless as this movie, then I feel almost as sorry for her as I do for myself, having had to endure this trivial and seemingly endless film. The scenery was lovely and thats the only reason I gave this flick one star (negative stars are not an option, unfortunately). If Sofia wasnt a Coppola, she wouldnt have survived in this business beyond American Graffiti. Why she won an academy award for her other torturous bore, Lost in Translation, is completely lost on me. Skip this movie and have a nice bottle of wine instead.

Simply a great movie! Absolutely beautiful and fun with a hint of sadness throughout. And I brought my boyfriend- he enjoyed the economic (or lack of) dynamics of the period and I completely melted with the dazzling costumes and scenery...and shoes.

This film is beautiful to look at and listen to but thats about it. The plot is ...well, I dont think it has a plot. The acting is average and below average. The photography and the sound track are what makes this worth sitting through. If you are going to see this you need to see it on the biggest screen in a theater with a good THX system. Its worth the afternoon movie price on a rainy day. Actually, find a theater that is showing Sherrybaby and get your doors blow off. The best performance by an actress since Theron in Monster......but totally different. Awesome movie worth the search for a theater showing it.

I went to see this movie with my girlfriend who liked it for what it was, and I did appreciate the scenes of Versailles where I visited just two months ago. But this movie has no historical value, no plot and no substance whatsoever. It was no more than an extended version of MTVs sweet 16 shows of stuck-up rich girls. If girls want to get swept away in a rich fantasy, fine. Just dont take your boyfriends.

Coppola goes out of her way--the entire length of the movie--to pound into our brains that Antoinette and her reluctant hubby were frivolous, mindless and impotent. In doing so, Coppola has turned out a movie that is frivolous, mindless and impotent.

This was one of the most beautiful movies Ive ever seen. The cinematography was mesmerizing and its stayed with me for a few days now, no movie has ever done that. As for the lack of a decapitation at the close of the movie, who wants to see that after such a beautiful depiction of Marie Antoinettes whirlwind of a reign as Queen of France? That certainly wouldnt be a happy ending. This movie wasnt a history lesson as others have clearly pointed out. I thought it was amazing. Case closed.
