Sure, the lemurs are cute, and the penguins slightly amusing, but I just couldnt find enough things to say it was good. I loved all parts of that movie. If theyre trying to criticize the story line, I also thought that was good. What do critics know?!? Theyre just trying to make a little more money by making theyre reviews a little more dramatic. Thats just sad...I loved it and I highly suggest families all over the world see it! I think it is very funny and it cracked my friends and I up several times. Some of the random songs they picked for parts of the movie were priceless. I saw this film in the theater and went away with a great feeling about what true friendship is about. Not a bad takeaway. The antics were hysterical and the penguins were definitely a highlight. I was also touched by the strong story threads of other animated films. But once in awhile, you just want to LAUGH!
The end-title music was outrageous. So much so that, 3 days later, my wife and I were still singing it. I later bought the soundtrack just for that song.
When it finally came out on DVD, I purchased and wacted it the same day.

It is one that you will watch for the little laughs that is gives. The penguins made the movie and they were only in it for about 15 minutes total. This movie was extremely weak- my son couldnt even be bothered to watch the whole thing- which Im glad since I didnt realize the movie was going to touch on natural instinct. Yes- the lemur was hilarious. For some odd reason- I found the penguins funny. The rest of the cast were one dimensional site gags. Im glad we rented this instead of purchasing it. As a matter of fact when we first brought it home we put it on in one room for the kids to watch while we grown ups watched something in the other room. Not long after starting the movie we heard our kids laughin hysterically in the other room. They laughed all the way through and again the following day when we grown-ups watched it with them. The movie is by no means deep, inspirational or unique in concept - but it is funny - even for us big kids! Over a week later and we still bust out with I like to Move It on occasion. 1st mistake...my husband and I went to see this movie at the $2 show, just to get out of the house.
2nd mistake...staying throughout this movie!
This was THE worst movie I've seen in a long time. It was so booooorrrrring! Yeah, it had a couple of funny lines, but that was it. I kept thinking for a lion, he doesn't sound all that intimidating. Bad casting, in my opinoin. I couldn't place the voice and now I find out that it's Ben Stiller, who I like, but not in this movie. Chris Rock was funny.
I didn't like a part where 2 star fish are on the hippo's breast area and a crab is where her girlie parts would be and she says, "ok, boys, the fun is over." Then they jump off. What did that signify?? I don't think that kids needed to see a sign change from H E L P to H E L L either.
The lemurs were not funny. The "king" lemur had an accent that I couldn't decide if it was Indian (India) or French. That bugged me. The pansy-calling was not so nice either. I think we all know what the word pansy means in today's slang.
The ending was stupid and left you hanging. All of a sudden the credits were rolling and nothing was really resolved.
I kept thinking Man, I spent $4 on THIS!! I coulda had a value meal or something! :) Was this review helpful? It looked really funny so I went for a double feature at our local Bear Tooth cinema. Sadly, as almost all comedy goes, all the jokes were seen in the preview and noticably out of context. It was funnier to watch the previews in my opinion. The best part of the show was the penguins, possibly the only part of the show that was funny that I dont remember seeing in the preview. The guy who plays the zebra is completely stupid, how he gets any applause with his version of comedy is beyond me. the character of the girraffe is completely useless and is used to spread the phobia of mentally ill patients. There is no comedy there of memorial efforts.
As for any animated picture it is delightful for kids, despite the politics, and it is just another arrow in my quiver that resounds the old proverb in the bible which says in the last days WE will not be able to endure sound doctrine but turn to fables for our truth.
