It out-distances any of the old standards. I always set aside an evening when I can watch it, cry with it, laugh with it - remember the joy and the pain of finding and losing love. It's my all time favorite movie. I didn't even recall that there were any semi-pornographic scenes because they just fit with the plot - no attempt as such to titilate; just part of the story. I'm waiting this season for the special night I put aside to watch this one. I love it. Was this review helpful? I just loved it. I cant stop watching it. I never liked Hugh Grant until this movie. All the actors and actresses did such a great job. This is a must have love story in your DVD collection. And for those people out there who did not think this was a love story, you must have just been dumped or are a bitter old maid. This is far from soft porn. Great movie!!! Loved it!!! It really made me think about how we long for love, how it gets lost on the way sometimes, and how it endures.
The story of the writer and the maid is just the best, so sweet. Was this review helpful? Sign In 21 out of 23 users found this helpful Posted: 3/6/2006A review of Love Actually by mianap I came across this movie on cable recently and have since viewed it at least a dozen times. It made me Laugh (Colin Frizzel, Billy Mack), Cry (husband, wife office girl triangle......... girl with mentally ill brother and her long burning love and desire for a co-worker), Angry (same storylines....DONT ANSWER THE PHONE!), Hopeful (English boy-American girl-understanding step-dad-Claudia Schiffer), Giddy (Rowan Atkins gift wrapping scene) Pain (guy who falls in love with his best friends new bride.......the song Here With Me by Dido perfectly punctuated this guys angst) Fear (writer-Portugese housekeeper......will they find love in spite of the language barrier?) Irony (nude stand-in couple experiencing an old fashioned romance) and finally, Victory (Prime Minister-ordinary girl love story). The movie glided from scenario to scenario with the greatest of ease. Even my 23 year old son, who REALLY did not want to watch this film......loved it! His favorite scenarios were The English guy coming to America to find the fun, friendly and extremely randy girl of his dreams and the aging hipster rock star in pursuit of a career comeback. Now that they are not showing Love, Actually that much anymore on cable, I will have to buy the DVD so that I can experience all those feelings once again! Was this review helpful? With all of its impossible and improbable situations presented, it teaches you to disregard everything that's decent and sacred. It defiles parenthood and children! It's NOT about love, it's about lust and the quest to satisfly it. It's pure unadulterated Hollywood garbage!! And that's being very kind. Save your money! Was this review helpful? Sign In 13 out of 15 users found this helpful Posted: 6/25/2005A review of Love Actually by I__LUV_MY_COSITAS I ended up seeing this movie while it was still out during the holiday season, only because it was my girlfriend's turn to pick a movie. I thought it would be just another romantic comedy and to some extent it was. But, there was something really special bout this movie. To make a long story short, I left the cinema loving this movie, and this movie became my favorite romantic comedy. This past Christmas (2004) my girlfriend and I gave each other this movie as a stocking stuffer. We go to seperate universities in seperate towns, so when ever I find myself missing her a lot I simply this put the DVD into its player and I'm suddenly taken back to wonderful holiday memories. Thats why this movie, is one of the best if not the best, romantic comedy of all time. Was this review helpful? I thought it was clever how each love story was seperate yet all had a connection. This movie is definately a great one for hopeless romantics and not for the synical in nature. The movie adds just enough reality with thoughts of infidelity by a married man. Thomas Sangster, (Sam) was superb. My favorite line by him was "what worse than the total agony of being in love?" Coming from a such a young character was hilarious....I just plain loved this movie. Was this review helpful? Was this review helpful? Sign In 8 out of 8 users found this helpful Posted: 7/29/2004A review of Love Actually by Anonymous The only saving grace of the movie was the acting by Hugh Grant and Rowan Atkinson. Richard Curtis could have done without some scenes that had absolutely no relevance to the movie. All in all it was good entertainment. Good British slap stick comedy. HA! HA! Was this review helpful? Sign In 10 out of 11 users found this helpful Posted: 6/20/2004A review of Love Actually by Anonymous So I finally sat down and watched this movie, thinking that I would like it (not love it, but like it). And I did, for the most part. It was pleasant enough. I didn't feel like I had watched a two hour movie, but with everything happening in the film, I'm sure you can understand why. I must admit, I do love happy endings, so in that respect, I enjoyed Love Actually. I also love Hugh Grant and Keira Knightley, and their story lines were two of my favorites. I didn't feel that any of the characters were developed enough, so I found it hard to form an attachment to any of them. At the end, the director did manage to loosely tie most things together, though I felt it was a forced and rushed effort. I suppose he felt the need to show that everyone related to one another in some way, but who knows. There were so many plots, that I feel some storylines that should've received more attention didn't (Whatever happened with Sarah and the guy she had liked for 2 years? Could they really not work things out because her brother was mentally ill and needed her attention?). The ensemble cast was impressive, and I must say they made the movie. I am not saying this is a bad movie. It was humerous, raw, and sentimental. It's a feel-good movie that's worth seeing once, but don't get your hopes up too high. Was this review helpful?
