Actually can't blame those who has given 1 out of 5 stars...many may find this movie boring ...but not me and some other people ...those who has been gone through the phases like the characters of this movie does....the movie felt so real....the movie ends in the perfect time..everything should stop after a certain period ...the background score is good and so is the camera work....

Bill Murray, and Scarlett Johansson, star in LOST IN TRANSLATION it is the second feature film from writer-director Sofia Coppola, is set in Tokyo, where two bored, melancholy Americans a fading movie star shooting an ad for Suntory whiskey and a young married woman with an ambitious, neglectful husband become fast friends after meeting in a hotel bar. The two spend an adventure-filled week together taking in the sights and getting to know each other. When I sat down to watch this movie I said to myself what is this? What am I watching? It opens with you looking at Scarlett Johansson butt. I got threw about 20 to 30 minutes before I said No I want to see a movie not this. Eventually I had to turn if off. People that I know my family said that it was really good slow starting but really good, so I had come back to it because everyone said it was good even the critics and I like Bill Murray, and Scarlett Johansson, I think they are great actors and I have liked a lot of there other films so I sat back down and stared the movie all over again and when it was over I said I almost missed out on a great movie. You have to sit a watch the whole thing to get a better understanding of what the movie is all about. I like movies were they take place in other countries not just the U.S.. I think that Japan is a fascinating country. And they went to Japan to make this movie. I hate movie were lets say it is suppose to take place in London but there are filming on a set in Holywood. LOST IN TRANSLATION is all filmed in Japan it is a beautiful country.and a perfect set for this perfect movie. Bill Murray, and Scarlett Johansson work great together I think that the most important thing in a movie is casting and this movie the casting is great. I believe Bill Murray, and Scarlett Johansson should have gotten Oscar nominations. LOST IN TRANSLATION is a mix of comedy and drama. LOST IN TRANSLATION is a beautifully made film and a remarkable movie.

Movies are mostly fictitious. Lost in translation indeed a fiction movie and without any strings attached and scarlett surely was a bad taste.

i just didn't get it. and i get a lot of things, really. i am an erudite non-pop culture following person but i just didn't understand what all the hype was about. i am the FIRST person to recc "films" that have no special effects, that are quiet and beautifully acted, that are not neccesarily "about" anything more than just two people interacting in an interesting and or different way. but what really confuses me is this: i get that, by the end of the movie, bill murray's character loved johansen's character. not in any kind of perverted (he's old enuf to be her daddy) way but just plain, simple, nice love. but why, for god's sake? what was the attraction? yes, she was pretty and young and simple and lost like he was. but she was so BLAH. she seemed like she was on valium or something. the transparant comparison betw her and the vapid blonde was worthy of a bad lifetime channel made for cable movie. and i think coppola's point could have been made in about half the time, without all the dragging out moments. i really wanted to love this movie, since i am a huge fan of weird or independent or foreign films, but this one just put me to sleep. am i alone here, folks??

Only Bill Murray could've pulled this off without so much as a second thought! He was so natural in it and that's his genius. Scarlett Johanson was also natural and was the perfect catalyst for the story to uncover Bill's genius. The supporting cast was great! The story was so different and refreshing! I highly recommend it!!!

First halfway through this movie I found somewhat boring, routine. Probably because Tokyo reminds me of the city I live in. But after reading some reviews about it, then watching it all. not so bad. This is more about how downtime is spend in Hotels for visiting American’s on business. Interesting relationship, one famous married american actor befriends another younger married female american in foreign land. They share the subject of marriage, go out to paint the town and Bedside Drinks over a Movie. These are certainly some of the perks I can appreciate living in a big city. What’s most decent, is they don’t break one of the ten commandments. just needing and enjoying each other company. Charlotte comes across to be on the antisocial, jaded side thou. Is it her only attraction to Bob because he’s a famous american actor?? She’s studying soul searching and when her and Hubby runs into his old beauty acquaintance who’s too excited to notice Charlotte, while she is quietly looking her over, almost in discuss. Kelly acknowledges his status in a fun nice to meet wife way. Charlotte only notes a flaw in her intelligence sarcastically . That’s on the vicious side, to not interact with such a delightful rare encounter, only to dampen it from the behind. A rude characteristic I once noticed in a loner. I found the scene of Mount Fuji breath-taking, such an sacred giant, standing tall, above the jungle and little cities. I like to call it the Sleeping Dragon, getting it’s due beauty sleep. It also looks like Bob has a bit of a nagging and controlling wife on his hands. All in all, Bob and Charlotte harmlessly shared the freedom they have from their marriages privately together. Filling in what’s needed in most relationships, sharing and having fun in wonderful Tokyo.

It's such a wonderfully quiet movie, and slow too. Almost like a silent film, but obviously the dialogue helps. It shows a bit of contemporary and ancient Tokyo as well, which is very pleasant.

I got a little confused but they did a great job. I was captivated by Scarlett Johansson's perfomance because it was such as contrast from most of the roles played by many 'teen queens'. Really wonderful.

Apparently, this movie is about two very lonely people in Tokyo who spend a few days going to karaoke bars and dinner at exotic restaurants. For some reason, this movie keeps the interest, in part because it is exceptionally well-acted and in part because the viewer keeps hoping this movie will have some sort of point. The cinematography is captivating and the actors do a superior job of making a lifeless script seem almost meaningful. Scarlett Johansson and Bill Murray enjoy a fascinating on screen chemistry despite the fact that the movie has no real story line. Basically, I'm glad I saw this movie, but I'm not sure why.

I have to say that Ms. Coppola's movie Lost in Translation is the worst and most racist representation of Japan I've ever seen. The local Japanese people are portrayed as cartoonish and made fun of because of their pronunciation on the English "L" and "R". I was very upset by this. Reinforcing stereo types. <br><br>Horrible movie. Ms. Coppola should have her Oscar taken away...

I saw this movie a few months ago. It was amazing. It expresses emotion through actions and not words. Words have become so fake these days. This movie is very refreshing to see. It's real. I would Recommend this movie to anyone who is looking for something to relate to.

Ya...I'm sorry, but this movie was not as impresive as the critics made it out to be. I mean, what was soooooo great about it? It was funny in some parts, when Bill Murray couldn't understand what the director was telling him and when the girl came into his hotel room and kept saying "lip my stocking" and rolled around on the floor. But I mean what else was there? It wasn't exciting, and come on..romantic?? They wre just friends, and didnt know other interesting people they could understand, so they hung out at the bar. I mean, the kareoke scene was just drawn out and annoying, and the scene with the strippers was just weird. And if they were such good friends, and had a deep connection, why didnt he get her adress in LA or her email or something so he could contact this one person who 'got him'? And ya, if he didnt get along with his wife why didnt they just separate instead of having kids who didnt even want to talk to him on the phone. And please, am I supposed to believe that a Yale graduate wouldnt find a job? It just seemed bland, just two people spending time together. By the way, she still dint give him his jacket back, she was wearing it on the street when he left. Meh, big. Whoop. MEH.

So, I liked the movie. I saw it, on video, in a brightly lit room with a bunch of other women who kept slapping my arm when I'd say, "...But, it's BILL MURRAY, and she's only 19!" I think my reaction would've been different if I'd watched it alone and hadn't read reviews first. <br><br>I think Sophia Coppola and her actors and crew really captured how surreal it is to live in Tokyo and not speak Japanese. Also, Coppola really gets it right as to how the unlikeliest of people can establish an unusual bond when the right set of circumstances, - alienation, loneliness, culture shock, similarities in humor, etc. - tumble into place. I found it to be pretty authentic, in that most of the time it felt like we were watching real life rather than some type of vehicle there to showcase some good acting and dialogue. Me being pedantic: I think in real life, the ending would have been far more mundane, but it made for a cool story, and after all, it may be based on a real life experience (or not) but it is a movie. <br><br>P.S.: I'm having fun reading the reviews from people who HATE this movie. I wonder how many people out there are like me and love the full span of Bill Murray's oeuvre, from Caddyshack to Groundhog Day, as well as Lost in Translation. And whether the majority of those who hated the film are the Caddyshack fans. I just used "oeuvre" and "Bill Murray" in the same sentence.
