I personaly think it caught all three of the origional Z-boys. In Spirt, In heart, In additude, IN EVERYTHING! Stacy Peralta, one of the original Z-boys also the writer of this movie, did a wonderful job!! I Love It Stacy! The film at first plays like it's gonna be a boring documentary, but surprises you when it is not at all. It's over the top but what the heck. You may well end up caring about these characters in a very short while into the film. I think it captures the late 70s very well and that it has something to offer just about anyone. This is like how it used to be. we had steel wheels, man. Can you believe it? I was really good at boarding and could have been a star like these guys, but ma mom made me get home when the street lights came on. Now I'm 50 years old and a loser ( I still live with my momma) . The film is really well done and the actors are all very good. Heath Ledger did an amazing job - worthy of perhaps an Oscar nod... The music is really great too... Can't wait to get the soundtrack! THIS MOVIE WAS SO BAD I WALKED OUT!!!! I have never walked out of a movie before, but this movie was sheer torture!! There is not one good thing I can think of to say about this movie. The acting was bad, the camera shots were horrible, the plot was horrible, it was put together poorly, the drama scenes were dull and lacking ambition, there was no emotion when there should have been.....
And for those of you who are wondering... they smoke pot throughout the entire first hour of the movie and there's a large clear bag of weed. Not something for even a 13yr old.

Sign In 18 out of 21 users found this helpful True to LifePosted: 6/4/2005A review of Lords of Dogtown by singcowgirl I wasn't sure after watching this movie if the director was going to be able to capture the true spirit of the Dogtown boys and what life was really like. Other than a few scenes that had a little extra Hollywood spin, this movie turned out to be very true to life. I hung out with the DT boys on and off from 1976-1979. If y'all were wondering why the term "Lords" is in the title, I can tell you. It's because wherever and whenever these guys made an appearance at a pool, a skatepark or a contest (or any skateable surface for that matter), the terrain instantly became theirs, they ruled, they owned it, regardless of who was there. Some guys would challenge them, and there would be fights, but most of them just backed off and let them skate until they were done. My heart was racing the whole movie watching and re-living the beginning and progression of my early skateboarding days and seeing the guys who always pushed the limits and pioneered the sport to where it is today. All the guys playing Tony, Jay and Stacy were excellent, particularly the actor playing Jay. Yes, Jay was that radical. Yes,Tony was that cocky. Yes, Stacy really was the "nice" guy and Yes, they really skated like that, with a lot of passion, a lot of guts and always pushing the boundaries (and going outside of them) both in their skating and their personal lives. To Stacy, Tony and Jay, thanks for the walk down memory lane. It's hard to believe it's been 29+ years and I'm watching this movie with my 19 and 15 year old teenagers (they have a hard time picturing what life was like for mom, now they know) To the director, you pulled it off and succeeded in capturing the true spirit of Dogtown and the "Lords" who ruled it.
