The family was absolutely believable complete with teenage angst and grandparental regrets. It was very funny and very real. I am surprised that little Abigail didn't win the academy award. She definitely deserved it as did the Alan Arkin who played the grandpa. At times that actor reminded me of my great-grandfather. The acting was extradordinarily strong and they actors and their styles meshed well together! The car....omg....I've had cars just as bad or possibly worse! Poor things! Anyways, this movie was awesome! Was this review helpful? It had a good story, great cast..and I could feel what the family was going through as it happened. I thought the end was perfect and unexpected.Loved it.... would recommend it to buy. When I view a movie, I tend to look at it from many different angles, and I often leave the theater sometimes before a movie is over if I feel it is terrible. This is not how I felt about this movie. I think this movie is sensational and extremely creative. I feel the writer, producer and director have created a movie that gives each character a separate identity, almost equally. I felt there were no dragging parts or lulls. Yes, at times things were exaggerated, but that was simply to produce the extremes of the different personalities. I feel most people who see this film will be able to identify several of the characters with someone whom they have known in their lifetime. My eldest daughter begged me to watch this movie but by the title I thought it was some type of kid's movie. While on a visit to my daughter's home for Father's Day, she was insistent and popped in the video while her Dad and I expressed our skepticism. We loved it from the start and I soon realized that the writer managed to make each character an almost equal element of the story line, which made the movie not center on one particular person, yet hilarious extensions of their family unit. It was amazing, hilarious, progressive and heartwarming. My favorite part as a parent was the end with the love and support shown by the entire family towards the youngest member. It's a big winner! Another part that made me laugh real hard is when the mini vans horn got stuck so people started honking back. Was this review helpful? i mean u have a uncle that wants to commit sucide and a brother that dont talk.
all they have in common is seeing that the young girl makes it to the pagent.
also the grandpa is the coolest grandpa ever, just wished his part was longer.
its worth renting, but not worth buying. its only a movie u can watch once and thats it.
just my opinion more reviews comming. Was this review helpful? Considering some of the great comedies of the past that have been overlooked, I am absolutely amazed this third-rate, B movie is being so discusssed and hyped for the Oscar. It was awful - the story line is marginal, the acting the same and the incidences that are presented as funny are oftentimes just plain sick. But I guess the nomination, and God-forbide an Oscar win, demonstates Hollywoods desire to keep the buying public off-guard. Was this review helpful? ANYONE whos ever been in a normal family, will realize that the family is a set of archetypes, exaggerated 10 times, with some heroin tossed in, and made funny as hell. Steve Carell and Paul Danos performances were exceptionally brilliant Carell because hes almost morbid serious (a refreshing change), Dano because hes forced to keep silent, and act well while doing so (which he does, flawlessly).
The beginning may turn some people off, but if you stick with it, youre in for a heartwarming, hilarious experience. Go. See. This. Film.
And as said at the beginning of this review, if you didnt like this film, you need to check your meds. Was this review helpful? I watched it with my husband and at first I could tell he was kind of bored by it, but by the end of the movie we were both laughing so hard. This is the kind of well written, fantastically acted movie that comes around every now and then, to make you believe in movies again. It is so cute and moving. SEE THIS MOVIE!! Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 1/12/2007A review of Little Miss Sunshine by great189 This year i have seen some very good movies, and some great movies. This about tops the list! I have been wanting to see this movie for awhile and it has been worth every bit of hype its been given. It is the most complete and solid movie that has come out in a long time. The acting was top notch by every actor and actress. At some points I was laughing so hard it hurt and then would be dropped with the characters. Everything was as good as it could have been. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 1/5/2007A review of Little Miss Sunshine by Cruisinsmooth I saw this movie on the Big Screen shortly after its release. Unfortunately they did not offer a satisfaction guarantee. This was one of the most overrated and uncomfortable movies to watch that I can recall. The movie is filled with editorial flaws and a cast of characters of which none have any redeeming qualities. Unfortunately, the attempt to take them over the top and create this cool kind of cinema fails miserably. There is little plausability to the script...come on...traveling with your eldest family member while he knowingly snorts heroin and preaches pornographic values to your kids ?????
And by the way...didnt we see Chevy Chase hauling the dead relative around years ago! This movie not only insulted my intelligence, I left the theatre feeling like I needed a shower to cleanse myself of all the depressing filth I had just witnessed. All of the critics who praised this piece of garbage
obviously need to fall in line and appear cool by reveling in the the mass hysteria which dictates that this is some revolutionary piece of filmmaking, or they simply lack the courage or intelligence to speak the truth for fear of criticism from their industry cohorts.
Save your money...this was one of the worst movies of the year! Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 1/5/2007A review of Little Miss Sunshine by Rachel-299 Quirky little films are my usual preference when picking a movie to go see, and my mother and I do not always see eye to eye when it comes to entertainment. We were having a movie night, and I (cautiously) suggested this movie to watch, not having pre-screened it myself. Her and I laughed SO hard throughout this entire movie. The quirkiness of this family is evident, yet subtle enough, that I think anyone can relate to them on some level. My mother kept saying that this movie reminded her of a present day version of National Lampoons Vacation. And really, if you completely mix the slight intelect of the Griswalds with Randy Quaids ill-mannered family from THAT movie...you will have something that is real similar to this one, road trip included. Honestly, IF you could not find ANY humor in this film....you really need to take life less seriously, and accept things for how they are. Who knew that a broken vanwagon horn could be soooo funny?? Oh...FYI...people go to see movies with dysfunctional families because it makes them find a little humor in their own. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 12/25/2006A review of Little Miss Sunshine by HoboJobo0 This movie...was just too real that it was both depressing and funny. I mean, all families are dysfunctional and they just brought up that point. So what if the pageant girls looked utterly disgusting? Thats life. Thats how they live and you have no right to criticize them. The family in the movie was made up of a great cast - everyone did such a good job portraying a true family. Yeah, sure, they may not be perfect, but youre no better. I loved the picture quality. The music seemed to blend with the sequencing. It was just absolutely perfect in the way that it was made to look imperfect. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 12/23/2006A review of Little Miss Sunshine by cretsbabygirl My husband and I had no idea what to expect when we decided to give this movie a try. With the cast, we thought it should be fairly entertaining. We were very wrong! An entire family puts their lives in an uproar so that a child can be part of some silly beauty pagent? Im curious as to how the daughter Olive ended up being accepted into a pagent like that when she was so obviously different from the other girls? And the mother had no idea of her talent, the clothes she would wear or the act she would perform ahead of time? The pagent itself made us sick to our stomachs watching those little girls who were bred to parade themselves (based on their LOOKS) around a stage. Those little girls looked absolutely frightening with their tiny heads, big hair and all that make up! Disgusting. The movie was boring, slow and pointless. Most American families are dysfunctional in some way. Who wants to watch it in a movie? Nothing to see here folks! SKIP IT and save your . Was this review helpful? Sign In | ||
