Since the golden age of mexican theater ended in the late 50's the Mexican theater went down. This movie marked the begining of a new era in the Mexican theater. I love this movie becuase it's so magical and you have to pay very close attention to what's going on. I would recomend to everyone to watch this movie.

Well, I must say that this movie was very entertaining. However, I was so depressed by the end of it that I could barely stand to finish watching it. I knew absolutely nothing about it before watching (other than the fact that it would be a good movie). Therefore, I wondered if the ";tradition"; of the youngest daughter living forever in her mother's enslavement was actually a common practice for spanish-speaking families. Whether it is true or not, this movie will certainly make you experience a rainbow of emotions, and it does a far better job of linking food and sex together than Chocolat did (although that was not really the point of that movie)... I recommend this one. Total girl movie, though.

If you're tired of seeing books-turned-movies that are not true to the book, then this is the movie to see. ";Like Water for Chocolate"; or ";Como Agua Para Chocolate"; is the most true to book movie that I have ever seen. Because the special effects may seem both cheesy and surreal at times, one must read the book to completely understand. A web of myth, tradition, dreams, emotion, irony, magic, love, and family honor, ";Like Water for Chocolate"; captures the essence of the entangled story line and the characters' plights. To make the experience more enchanting and enjoyable, I suggest watching the one with the subtitles, not the one with English dubbed over, as it sounds very corny.Adelante! Enjoy!
