One cannot discount the long-known abilities of Maggie Smith and Judy Dench. Again their performances were everything one expects. The music in this piece was beyond well-done--it was moving--so much so that many left the theatre in tears. A pleasant story of deep feelings that everyone should enjoy.

This movie had it's sweet moments and the treasure here is that it is full of topnotch dramatic performances (as well as a bit of humour). What was most interesting was the premise ....... by the three quarter point, however, it may have become a bit predicatable for some moviegoers. Quite beautiful to look at.

Enjoyable, quietly moving film, enlivened by wonderful performances from two of our finest actresses, thats the writing and directing debut of actor Charles Dance. It was recently chosen as the Royal Command Performance film and one can well imagine that it went down a storm with that particular audience; in fact, they should probably just go ahead and add the tag-line, “A Film You Should Take Your Mother To See”, as that’s exactly what it is. As such, it’s an enjoyable, undemanding period film with terrific performances from a grand old pair of Dames, Judi Dench and Maggie Smith, because it gives you an oscar performance party preview invitation. I thought that is a quietly moving film that’s definitely worth seeing for its performances. It doesn't exactly make the biggest of impacts, and certainly a film centring on the emotional happenings of a pair of wrinklies won't be the most attractive proposition for most movie-goers, but as a first-time effort from Dance it can only be seen as a success, by the time oscar nominations voting ballot's coming in january or february. It's one of those precious and hearty vanity projects that gifted and legendary performers little lack the good sense to avoid. Never the less, its worth a try.
