This film is one of the, if not best films I've ever seen. Marion was terrific. Refreshing to see real acting instead of the typical James Caan - Michael Douglas playing themselves ad nauseam. The role of Piaf was played with such feeling and fullness. This movie really does show that a real story with real acting can be entertaining and moving. Shame on Hollywood for showing Zeta Jones cleavage in lieu of acting skills. Vive La France!! Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful  Great Acting but cut some scenesPosted: 7/27/2007A review of La Vie en Rose by smalldinkie Of course the acting was superb-shame on those actresses who won the academy awards by playing themselves as other people-like Juilia Roberts-this is the definition of acting as portrayed by this star-a movie like this in a day of garbage is an inspiration-now the problems-to many damnn scenes that should have been cut-okay we get it that she was an addict-and drunk but no need for the 1960's drunk scene in the car and at the pool-we knowwwwwwww! Also why can't a director play an emotional scene other than people screaming-when the girl is torn away from the hooker who befriended her-why not have the hooker represent the emotion of shock and dismay in another way-since this scene was made up it rang as false-the poor emotional kindhearted hooker is a cliche'-same when Piaf's boyfriend dies in a plane crash, although it happened in real life, why do we need to see her in a screaming fit-it is time directors use other methods of showing extreme emotions-and way to many repeated scenes of her being old-this movie could have been under 2 hours and should have been-one last thing-why do directors have to use a sharp white for the subtitles-why not a darker hue so it does not shriek over a dark scene at us-I wish I could have sat with him while he filmed this-jack Was this review helpful? in many movies. However........i found the flipping around in time confusing at times.
Also people suddenly appeared in her life and just as quickly disappeared leaving the
audience wondering who they were and where they came from. It also left out
essential facts....like the fact that she died of Cancer, that she was part of the
French underground resistance and helped many frenchmen escape German
captivity in WW11. I felt it showed the more negative side of her and completely
omitted the good side. All in all I liked the movie but would not want to see it

The Hollywood's majority are the ones you can not remember two weeks after. This one you will remember for years. It is the best one I've seen in years. The script, director, music everything is great. As for the performance of Marion Cotillard, I can not compare it with anything. I do not recall anything of that level ever before. The 30 miles I had to drive to see it were well worth it. What a captivating movie! The lead actress certainly deserves an Oscar for her vivid portrayal of this tortured chanteusse. Every single member of the cast is superb too. What a tragic life, what a beautiful movie.
