Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 7/18/2009A review of Knowing by Upset_Scientist To all the people who liked this movie, I want to know one thing. Why do you care so much about a movie that is just so stupid? This movie is proof that every Nicolas Cage movie is, at best, retarded. This movie ends on such an upset that I returned it to Movie Gallery, asking them to return the two hours I sat through this garbage. The only purpose this movie proves is the same as others before it, such as Signs, Close Encounters of The Third Kind, and even E.T. But honestly, this movie has no imagination whatsoever. I am even happier of knowing that from now on, I will stay away from all of the other movies that Nicolas Cage is in. Everyone else should do the same. Was this review helpful? The kids are dolls, Cage does his best work in years and everyone does a great job in support. Ending is thoughtful, and not the usual sugary pap. Best Armagedon movie I've seen. I strongly recommend it, if you are in the mood for a challanging evening of movie watching. Was this review helpful? Sign In 1 out of 1 users found this helpful I thought this film was going to be a mix of National Treasure and cool action drama. However, I ended up being spooked by a story-less film, prior to midday - and on a weekday even. Also, the ending when two random kids were sent to space was so lame. This kind of film can, not only give you goose pumbs, ruin your movie-going spirit and purpose of being. Not my cup of latte, I'm afraid. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Should have been "knowing" it was to good to be true. The movie catches your attention, and then falls off the map as being lame. The ending was less than steller in my book... glad I waited to rent it on DVD Blu-ray wouldn't even help this one. Was this review helpful? Wonder if we are closser to the truth? Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful This movie was the most suspensful movie i have ever seen until when you find out what is really happening. It is kind of like if you are in aw of a movie and you cant wait to see what was next, it turns out someone played a trick on you and turned everyone into angels. Was this review helpful? Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful This movie keeps you entertained from the very start. Can't think of a movie that has literally given me goosebumps the way this one did, more than once. It's exciting when he realizes the significance of what he has found and can see what the future holds. 10 times better than Nic Cage movie "Next". Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful This was a great movie. The ending was definately not what I expected. With all the sci-fi that comes out. This is one that keeps you tuned in and is believable. I have never seen a director or screenwriter take a stab at the bible, the story of armageddon, adam and eve, and wrap it up in a sci fi thriller. Well done. To further know the biblical implications you have to read Revelations, Genesis chapter 1, and story of Ezekial. This was well thought out. However, if you're not a christian, you might pick up on what I'm referring to. It is refreshing to see Hollywood has a soul. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 4/7/2009A review of Knowing by Mark_Keller With elements of action, science fiction and horror, “Knowing” appeals to a wide variety of moviegoers.
Nicolas Cage plays John Koestler, a professor in New England and single parent struggling to find purpose in his life. His son, Caleb, (Chandler Canterbury) attends an elementary school celebrating its 50th anniversary.
When a time capsule left by the school’s first class 50 years ago is opened, John and Caleb find a strange list of random numbers with seemingly no meaning. Later, John notices the numbers 9-11-01 and begins to research the other numbers, only to realize they have foretold every major disaster and their
locations over the past half century. The list shows three devastating events yet to occur, the final one a global disaster.
The cast is plunged into a terrifying adventure threatening their lives and fate as they try to prevent these disasters from happening.
Cage delivers an excellent performance, unlike past films with his emotionless style. Every line and action is delivered with compelling emotion.
The supporting cast includes Canterbury, Lara Robinson as Abby and Rose Byrne as Diana. All perform well with each other and Cage with exactly the chemistry needed for a disaster film.
However, the effects could be better. At times they have viewers at the edge of their seats putting themselves into the character’s situation. Other times they are so poor they take away from the feel of the film.
The sound effects and music are excellent, which partially makes up for the visual effects. Marco Beltrami provides an original score that is exactly what you hope for in a thriller.
The flick runs just over two hours and carries a PG-13 rating, but graphic images and disaster sequences will disturb some viewers.
The whole ride is an enjoyable experience until the ending, which will take viewers for a confusing loop that makes their heads spin with questions of life, its meaning and fate, which they will either love or hate. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful I lost a little respect for Nicolas Cage with this movie. It is exactly the same formula as other recent religiously pretentious movies like "I Am Legend" and "The Reaping." A scientifically-minded unbeliever is converted by supposedly miraculous events or coincidences against the backdrop of a biblical-like apocalypse. It's getting very trite, and I'm getting tired of going to the movies just to get proselytized to. I go to the movies to escape political or religious agendas being shoved in my face all day. I remember a review of "The Reaping" that asked, "What's a two-time oscar winner [Hilary Swank] doing in a pretentious piece of crap like this?" Well, special effects in this one are better, and it avoids the lame mutants of "I Am Legend" and the retarded aliens from "Signs", but I'm beginning to wonder if the same question should be asked of Hollywood's recent pandering to anthropic credulousness.
