It describes people's troubles in life and this film just makes you lie back and watch other people's family in crisis!
So what are you waiting for?
Was this review helpful? Kirt and Michael shine again in their performance. Would like to see a sequel that follows up on the issues addressed. Plan to purchase to view again and again. Was this review helpful? Michael was great and Cameron was terrific Was this review helpful? At the end there was no resolution for anything that happened in the entire length of the movie. It was like here is our screwed up family and nothing beyond that.

Overall: A big waste of my time. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful Posted: 5/22/2003A review of It Runs in the Family by Anonymous The acting of this well chosen cast is excellent. The story of a three generation gap in changing times is skillfully brought together by family traditions. The family get-together to celebrate are meaningful and enjoyable scenes. The sex in the soup kitchen scene is too graphic for people on their first dates and also would deter parents from allowing children of 13 yrs.+ to view what is otherwise an educational family story. On the same theme it also portrays teenage college girls as being "first date promiscuous", which really is the exception and not normal. The "viking" type funeral was unexpected and memorable--blood is thicker than water-- and with love it proves the rule that families need each other. This is an entertaining movie which moves along at a nice pace holding ones interest to the end. No gimmicks-explosions or sordid scenes is a welcome change. The Director deserves a ten for getting a group of larger than life actors to appear like everyday people. Was this review helpful? It is an excellent story, well acted, and lives up to the reputation of Kirk and Michael Douglas. However, I felt Bernadette Peters was not the best choice forRachel. With the expectations of a well written and acted film, I felt there were many other film stars who would have contributed more to this movie than Ms. Peters. Was this review helpful? The actors were excellent and believable and the script was well written. It definitely held my interest. The movie portrays with love an affluent Jewish family with universal problems of communication between the generations. It is a serious movie, sometimes quite sad, but with humor, as well. I cried and laughed out loud. As a Jew, I enjoyed the seder scene amd Hebrew and Yiddish references and found the movie a positive experience. The family has their problems, but they love each other. I also liked that the Michael Douglas character does charity work and cares about the world. Was this review helpful? The story line is weak, and the Douglas son's were weaker. You will see the youngest son show off is inability to follow in the foot steps of generation early, while you get to watch Michael Douglas stretch is acting ability by re-inacting a similar sex scene from Disclosure, except this time he is in a soup kitchen. The obvious purpose behind this movie was to provide Kurt Douglas with an oppotunity to get back in front of the camera after all of his health problems. And he definately is insperational and probably the only good reason going to see it. So, If you are a HUGE Kurt Douglas fan, then you may enjoy it, other wise don't waste the 2.5 hours and $20 dollars. My suggestion, if you really want to see it. WAIT. Because it will only take 4-6 weeks before it is in your local Blockbuster collecting dust on their shelves. Was this review helpful? It gives Michael Douglas the chance to act with him father (as well as his mother and son)... nothing wrong with that, and Kirk Douglas' acting and humor shines through his after-stroke limitations. But it's a predicatable film, and I wish I'd waited to rent it instead of seeing it in the theatre. Was this review helpful?
