I have never been a Tom Cruise fan but Last Samurai and Valkyre were both awesome. Valkyre had a great supporting cast, realism, and was indeed historically accurate. Inglorious Basterds was nothing more than another Tarrantino bloodfest aimed at doing nothing more than shock factor. I have always enjoyed a good WWII movie and have an extensive collection from old classics such as To Hell and Back with Audey Murphy, Midway, Shindlers List, Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers, etcetera, etcetera. I will not lower the value of my collection or my I.Q. by adding Basterds to it. Was this review helpful? Much to my amazement I found the movie very entertaining and all of the actors did great jobs. Normally I do not like to see a movie where I have to read sub-titles but they were not in every scene. The first 10 minutes is drawn out and I think could of been shorten but the rest of the movie was wonderful. Thanks to Quentin, Brad and all of the actors for a fun and enjoyable 2 1/2 hrs. Knowing Tarantino, and the other movies of his I've seen, I expected a lot more blood.I was also hoping for a good love scene or two, though this one had a "quickie". LOL. This movie was HILARIOUS...my husband and I were rolling on the floor. I loved the length of the movie. With the prices, these days, it's nice to pay to see a bit more and not have the movie over in an hour. Brad Pitt was hilarious. I wish he was in more of the movie. His Italian accent, towards the end, was so over the top, I couldn't breath from laughing so hard. This was a great movie...too bad it didn't really happen this way!! It did have a lot of subtitles, which I always enjoy and don't mind. Was this review helpful? Like other Tarantino flics, I definitely felt like I was at a *movie*. Story line, goofy lines, etc... all part of the fun. We're not in history class. Tarantino has great presentation. Not everything is a gem, but it is as a package.
Not a fan of Brad Pitt, but I loved his role in this movie. So it's a faked accent... Who doesn't realize that in two seconds -- from the preview. Again, all part of the fun. If I want realism, I'll stare at a TV. I just want a dang fine movie -- stress on *movie*.
I won't lie, there were slow moments. I wasn't in a rush though. Was this review helpful? Sign In 0 out of 0 users found this helpful great despite Pitt-fallsPosted: 9/4/2009A review of Inglourious Basterds by maldonado378 Great scene preparation leads to great tension and Tarrentino does this throughout the film without losing his sense of cinematic flair and history. Those that go to the movies for the slam-bang idiocy of Transformers and other noisy offerings should stay away. Pitt is sometimes a bit too smug about his persona and star status. Mostly, however, he is very funny and offers a balancing perspective to the horrors of @#$% actions. The parallelism between the burning of the film library and the @#$% "burning of the books" was great, not only from an ideological point of view, but as justly executed vengence. Christoph Waltz was mesmerizing and overwhelmed the evil @#$%s of war time movies such as Otto Premminger and Conrad Veidt. Great fun, great flick! Was this review helpful? The only thing that saved it were the graphic scenes of violence, but there weren't enough of them to hold my attention. I have to say that there was way too many subtitles to read. I hate when I have to read subtitles!!! I go to the movies to WATCH not READ! Why couldn't he have just done this movie completely in English? When I have to move my attention to the subtitles I can't focus on what is going on on the screen. Absolutely %&*^ed! It was way too long. There where many scenes that could've been shortened, including the opening scene. Don't waste your money. I wish I didn't! Was this review helpful? Loved the performances, especially Waltz, Laurent, Bruhl, and Kruger. Its not at all what you expect from the previews-really a conspiracy movie that holds your interest through the last scene. Tarantino is at the top of his game. The film should be mentioned at awards time.
